Key moments

The decisive run came midway through the third quarter. With the score tied at 48, Megaridas went on an 11-2 surge over a three-minute span. Kostas Gkikas sparked the run with a three-pointer and a fast-break assist, while Manolis Chatzidakis controlled the defensive boards. That burst gave the hosts a cushion they protected the rest of the way.

Peiramatiko cut the lead to four with just under two minutes remaining, but Megaridas answered with a patient possession that ended in a corner three. The visitors missed on their next trip, and Megaridas sealed the result at the foul line.

Standout performers

• Kostas Gkikas, NE Megaridas: 20 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. He was the game’s best perimeter creator.
• Manolis Chatzidakis, NE Megaridas: 16 points and 11 rebounds, giving the hosts a strong interior presence.
• Thanasis Zafeiris, NE Megaridas: 14 points, including three timely three-pointers.
• Alexis Frantzeskos, Peiramatiko Machites: 18 points and 6 rebounds. He kept the visitors close with tough shot-making.
• Dimitris Katiakos, Peiramatiko Machites: 15 points and 8 assists, directing the offense effectively for long stretches.

Tactical story

Megaridas’ rebounding advantage was the foundation of the win. The hosts won the battle on the boards by a clear margin, limiting Peiramatiko’s second-chance opportunities while creating extra possessions of their own. Megaridas also did a better job of getting to the rim in the second half, scoring consistently in the paint after settling for too many jump shots early.

Peiramatiko stayed in the game with ball movement and three-point shooting, but it could not match Megaridas’ physicality inside. The visitors also committed a few costly turnovers in the third quarter, precisely when the game began to slip away.

What it means

The victory strengthens NE Megaridas’ position in the Greece A2 standings and reinforces the value of its home-court advantage. Peiramatiko Machites leave with a competitive loss but will need to improve its rebounding and late-game execution to turn close defeats into wins.
