Match overview

Ludwigsburg opened with energy in front of their home crowd, but Vechta stayed within striking distance throughout the first half. The game remained close at halftime, with Ludwigsburg holding a narrow 39-36 lead after a pair of tightly contested quarters. Neither team was able to build a double-digit advantage, and the contest turned into a possession-by-possession battle after the break.

• Quarter scores: Ludwigsburg 19-17, 20-19, 16-21, 17-18
• Halftime: Ludwigsburg 39, RASTA Vechta 36
• Final: EnBW Ludwigsburg 72, RASTA Vechta 75

Key moments

The decisive stretch came late in the third quarter when Vechta strung together an 8-0 run to flip a four-point deficit into a lead. That burst changed the rhythm of the game and forced Ludwigsburg to chase the score in the final ten minutes. Even so, the home side refused to fade. A timely three-pointer tied the game at 70 with just under two minutes remaining, setting up a nervy finish.

Vechta responded with the next five points, mixing a tough finish at the rim with calm free-throw shooting. Ludwigsburg had one last look to force overtime, but the attempt did not fall, and Vechta secured the rebound to close out the win. In a cup format where margins are often tiny, those final defensive stands proved just as important as the late scoring.

Tactical story

Vechta’s backcourt controlled the tempo well, especially in the second half. The visitors slowed the game when needed, attacked mismatches in the pick-and-roll, and kept Ludwigsburg from turning the contest into a track meet. Their perimeter defense also improved after halftime, limiting clean looks from beyond the arc during the key third-quarter run.

Ludwigsburg found success inside for long stretches and stayed competitive on the offensive glass. The home side generated enough second-chance points to remain in front early, but costly turnovers in the fourth quarter reduced their margin for error. Vechta’s ability to convert late possessions into points proved to be the difference in a game separated by just one made basket.

Standout performers

Vechta’s guards set the tone with composed decision-making and timely shot-making. Their ability to break pressure and find open teammates kept the offense functioning when Ludwigsburg tried to speed the game up. The frontcourt also delivered important defensive stops, particularly on the final possession.

For Ludwigsburg, the interior scoring and rebounding effort kept the team alive until the final minute. The home side had balanced contributions across the rotation, but the lack of a final scoring punch in the last 90 seconds ultimately ended their cup hopes.

What the result means

RASTA Vechta move on in the German Basketball Cup, while EnBW Ludwigsburg are eliminated from the knockout competition. For Vechta, the win is a confidence boost built on late-game execution and road toughness. For Ludwigsburg, the focus now shifts back to league form, where the team will look to turn a narrow cup defeat into motivation for the next stretch of the season.
