Union Lyon Women 73-56 Tronche Meylan Women: Lyon Take Control After the Break

Union Lyon Women secured a convincing 73-56 victory over Tronche Meylan Women in France's Ligue Féminine de Basketball, producing a composed and professional performance in front of their home supporters. The margin of 17 points reflected Lyon's control of the game from the second quarter onwards, as they gradually pulled away from a determined but ultimately overmatched opponent.

The win keeps Lyon in a strong position in the Ligue Féminine standings and underlines the depth of a roster assembled to compete at the top end of French women's basketball.

Match Overview

The visitors started positively, matching Lyon's early intensity and finding some success with their half-court offence. Tronche Meylan's disciplined, patient approach kept the game close through the opening period, and there was little to separate the two teams heading into the first break.

The picture changed in the second quarter. Lyon cranked up their defensive pressure, forcing hurried shots and turnovers, and began to convert those opportunities into points at the other end. A steady run of scoring opened up a double-digit advantage that the hosts never relinquished.

• Final score: Union Lyon Women 73, Tronche Meylan Women 56
• Turning point: A dominant second quarter from the home side
• Defensive edge: Lyon held their opponents to 56 points

Key Moments

The decisive passage of play arrived midway through the second quarter, when Lyon strung together a run built on defensive stops. A steal at half court led to an easy transition basket, and a follow-up three-pointer moments later forced Tronche Meylan into a timeout. The momentum had clearly shifted, and the visitors were never able to wrestle it back.

In the third quarter, Lyon stretched the lead further with efficient interior play. Their bigs won position on the block and finished consistently, while the guards kept the offence flowing with quick ball reversals. Tronche Meylan continued to battle, but the gap had grown too wide to close.

Tactical Story

Lyon's success was founded on defence. By switching aggressively on screens and closing out hard on shooters, they limited Tronche Meylan's clean looks from the perimeter and forced them into contested mid-range attempts. The rebounding battle also went Lyon's way, denying the visitors second-chance points that might have kept the game closer.

Offensively, Lyon played with patience. Rather than rushing shots, they worked the ball inside-out, drawing double teams and then finding open teammates on the perimeter. That combination of inside scoring and unselfish passing made the offence difficult to defend, and the scoring load was spread evenly across the roster.

Standout Performers

Lyon's frontcourt was the anchor of the performance, controlling the paint at both ends and finishing efficiently around the basket. The guards set the defensive tone with active hands and relentless pressure on the ball, while the bench contributed crucial minutes that maintained the team's intensity when rotations came.

For Tronche Meylan, there were positives to take despite the scoreline. Their first-quarter performance showed they can compete with strong opposition, and individual efforts on the defensive end kept Lyon honest for long periods. Consistency over four quarters is the challenge against teams of this calibre.

What It Means for the Season

For Union Lyon Women, this is exactly the kind of controlled home victory that builds a season. Protecting home court is essential in the Ligue Féminine, and the manner of the win — through defence and balanced scoring — will please the coaching staff as much as the result itself.

Tronche Meylan will take lessons from the game. Facing one of the stronger sides in the league, they showed flashes of quality but were undone by a difficult second period. Their response in the next round of fixtures will be important for building confidence as the campaign progresses.
