The final score of Union Lyon Women 59, Bourges Basket Women 72 highlights Bourges’ ability to control the tempo. Lyon competed hard, especially in the first half, but Bourges’ experience and depth proved decisive after the break.

Match Overview

The opening quarter was a defensive battle. Both teams struggled to find clean looks, with Lyon’s aggressive help defense forcing Bourges into contested jumpers. Bourges responded by attacking the offensive glass, generating second-chance points that kept them ahead.

Lyon stayed within touching distance through the second quarter, using quick ball movement and drives to the basket. However, Bourges began to impose their half-court defense in the third quarter, forcing turnovers and converting them into transition points. That stretch gave the visitors a lead they would not relinquish.

How Bourges Basket Women Won

Bourges’ victory was built on defense and rebounding. They limited Lyon’s second-chance opportunities, contested every shot and forced Lyon into difficult late-clock situations. On offense, Bourges moved the ball patiently, finding the open shooter or the mismatch inside.

The visitors also controlled the pace. When Lyon tried to speed the game up, Bourges slowed it down and ran their sets. When Lyon packed the paint, Bourges knocked down enough outside shots to keep the defense honest. It was a mature, professional performance.

Key Moments and Turning Points

• Second-quarter response: After Lyon tied the game, Bourges closed the half with a small run to regain momentum.
• Third-quarter defensive clampdown: Bourges held Lyon to a low-scoring stretch, building a double-digit lead.
• Transition baskets: Steals and long rebounds led to easy points for Bourges.
• Late-game poise: Bourges knocked down free throws and avoided turnovers in the final minutes.

Tactical Story

Bourges Basket Women employed a switching defense that frustrated Lyon’s pick-and-roll attack. Their bigs were mobile enough to stay in front of guards, while the wings closed out hard on shooters. That versatility allowed Bourges to disrupt Lyon’s rhythm without giving up easy interior looks.

Offensively, Bourges prioritized ball movement and player movement. They used off-ball screens to free shooters and repeatedly found cutters against Lyon’s overextended defense. Lyon, meanwhile, relied heavily on individual creation, which became less effective as the game wore on.

Standout Performers

Bourges received contributions from across the roster. Their guards controlled the game, the forwards crashed the boards, and the bench provided energy on both ends. The balanced scoring made it difficult for Lyon to focus on stopping one player.

Union Lyon Women had bright moments from their perimeter players and some strong drives to the rim, but they struggled to sustain offense. Their defense created some turnovers, yet they could not convert enough of them into points. Improving execution in the half court will be a priority going forward.
