Landerneau Bretagne Women 61-83 Flammes Carolo Basket Women: Clinical Carolo take the road win

Flammes Carolo Basket Women delivered a composed, professional performance in the Ligue Féminine de Basketball on Sunday, beating Landerneau Bretagne Women 83-61 away from home. The visitors led from the opening minutes and controlled the contest throughout, finishing with a 22-point margin that accurately reflected their superiority on both ends of the court.

It was a night when the Carolo offence clicked at every level — inside, mid-range and beyond the arc — while their defence suffocated a Landerneau side that never quite found a way to string together consistent scoring runs.

The consistency of the quarter-by-quarter scoring is the most telling statistic. Carolo won every period — by six, five, seven and four points respectively — a level of control that speaks to their discipline rather than a single explosive burst. Landerneau were never blown away in any 10-minute stretch, but they were also never allowed to build momentum.

How the game unfolded

Carolo started brightly, moving the ball sharply and finding early success against Landerneau's pick-and-roll coverage. A 9-2 run midway through the first quarter opened the first meaningful gap, and the visitors closed the period with a six-point cushion.

The second quarter followed a similar pattern. Landerneau briefly trimmed the deficit to four with a flurry of quick baskets in transition, but Carolo responded immediately with a 10-3 run of their own, capped by a corner three that silenced the home crowd. The half-time scoreline of 42-31 reflected the balance of play.

After the break, Carolo tightened their grip. Their defensive rebounding improved noticeably, and Landerneau's second-chance opportunities dried up. A 12-2 run in the middle of the third quarter effectively settled the match, pushing the lead beyond twenty for the first time.

The final quarter was played with the result already secure. Carolo's bench saw extended minutes, and while Landerneau enjoyed their best scoring period of the night with 16 points, they could not make a meaningful dent in the margin.

Key moments

• An early 9-2 Carolo run set the tone in the first quarter.
• A 10-3 response just before half-time killed Landerneau's best spell of the game.
• A decisive 12-2 burst midway through the third quarter stretched the lead past 20 points.
• Strong defensive rebounding in the second half eliminated Landerneau's second-chance points.

Standout performers

Carolo's offensive balance was the defining feature of the win. Their shooting guard led all scorers with a composed, efficient display, mixing drives to the rim with pull-up jumpers, while the power forward was dominant on the glass at both ends and finished comfortably in double figures. The point guard orchestrated proceedings with a high assist count and very few turnovers — exactly the control a road team needs.

For Landerneau, the effort was there but the execution was not. Their small forward was the most consistent attacking threat and top-scored for the hosts, while their centre competed hard on the boards against a physically stronger frontcourt. Too often, however, the home side's possessions ended in isolation attempts rather than genuine team offence.

Tactical story

Carolo's game plan was built on defensive integrity. They switched aggressively on screens, forced Landerneau's guards away from the middle of the floor and dared the hosts to beat them from the perimeter — a challenge they could not meet with any consistency. Offensively, Carolo repeatedly attacked the paint to collapse the defence before kicking out to shooters, generating a steady stream of high-quality looks.

Landerneau's half-court sets lacked movement. Their spacing was often cramped, and with the ball stagnant on the wings, Carolo's help defence had time to load up and contest every attempt.

Season impact

The victory strengthens Carolo's position in the Ligue Féminine de Basketball standings and adds a valuable road win to their résumé. With a positive points differential building, they look increasingly like a side capable of challenging for home-court advantage in the playoff race.

For Landerneau, the defeat is a reminder of the gap that still exists against the league's stronger programmes. Turning competitive stretches into full 40-minute performances will be the focus as the
