Basket Landes 91-51 Tronche Meylan Women: Landes send a statement with 40-point demolition

Basket Landes produced a ruthless, complete performance on Sunday, overwhelming Tronche Meylan Women 91-51 in the Ligue Féminine de Basketball. The 40-point victory was built on a blistering opening quarter and sustained two-way dominance, and it will serve notice to the rest of the league that the Landais are a serious force at home.

Ninety-one points is a substantial offensive output in the French women's top flight, and it came from a genuinely balanced attack: fast-break points, interior scoring, three-point shooting and free throws all contributed to the final total.

Landes won every quarter and never allowed Tronche Meylan to settle. The 25-12 opening period set the tone, and by half-time the lead had grown to 21. The third quarter was arguably the most impressive of all, with Landes scoring 24 while holding the visitors to 13, effectively ending the game as a contest before the final period began.

How the game unfolded

Landes came out firing. Their ball movement was quick and purposeful, and Tronche Meylan's defence was repeatedly stretched by drives that collapsed the paint and kick-outs that found open shooters. A 14-2 run inside the first six minutes established a lead the hosts never came close to surrendering.

The second quarter brought no let-up. Landes' bench contributed immediately, maintaining both the defensive intensity and the scoring rate. Every time Tronche Meylan scored, Landes answered — usually quickly, often in transition.

After the interval, the home side's defensive pressure became almost oppressive. Tronche Meylan struggled to advance the ball past half-court without turning it over, and the resulting transition opportunities allowed Landes to reach 24 points in the third quarter alone.

With the result long since decided, the fourth quarter saw Landes rotate their squad and manage the clock sensibly. Even then, they won the period by eight to complete a thoroughly one-sided evening.

Key moments

• A 14-2 opening run inside six minutes put Landes in complete control.
• A bench-led 8-0 spurt early in the second quarter pushed the lead past 20.
• Landes' 24-13 third quarter turned the game into a procession.
• Sustained full-court pressure forced a string of Tronche Meylan turnovers after the break.

Standout performers

Landes' scoring was spread across the roster, which is exactly what coaches want to see in a comfortable win. Their shooting guard was the game's leading scorer, knocking down threes and finishing in transition with equal comfort. The power forward controlled the paint, dominating the defensive glass and converting second-chance opportunities, while the point guard delivered one of her most complete all-round games of the season, controlling tempo and finding shooters in rhythm.

For Tronche Meylan, it was a difficult afternoon. Their centre was the most reliable contributor, scoring inside and battling for rebounds when the game was still competitive, and their shooting guard showed flashes with a couple of contested mid-range makes. But the visitors' guard play was overwhelmed by Landes' on-ball pressure, and the turnover count told its own story.

Tactical story

Landes' approach was simple and executed superbly: defend aggressively, rebound, run. Their guards picked up Tronche Meylan's ball-handlers early, and the visitors had no answer for the speed of the rotations behind the initial pressure. On offence, Landes played with genuine pace, attacking before the defence was set and forcing mismatches in transition.

Tronche Meylan tried to slow the game down by playing a more half-court oriented style, but without efficient shooting from the perimeter, those possessions ended in contested attempts late in the shot clock. The defensive glass was also a problem — Landes' offensive rebounding generated a steady supply of extra possessions.

Season impact

A 40-point win does more than add a victory to the standings. Points differential can be decisive in the Ligue Féminine de Basketball playoff seeding race, and Landes have now banked a substantial advantage that could prove valuable in the final reckoning.

Equally important is the confidence boost for a deep roster. In a season of congested calendars and midweek fixtures, being able to rotate players while maintaining that level of performance is an encouraging sign of the s
