Union Tarbes Lourdes used a powerful third-quarter surge to pull away from Vendee Challans and claim a 93-82 home win in France Nationale 1 action. The home side’s balanced scoring and improved defensive pressure after halftime turned a close contest into an 11-point victory, keeping Tarbes Lourdes in a strong position in the regular-season race.

Match overview

Tarbes Lourdes started brightly, attacking the paint and moving the ball with purpose. Vendee Challans stayed close by knocking down outside shots and getting to the free-throw line. The first half was played at a high tempo, with both teams trading runs and neither able to establish a double-digit advantage.

The game changed after the interval. Tarbes Lourdes tightened their defense, forced Challans into contested shots, and began to dominate the defensive glass. That platform allowed them to build a lead that they protected comfortably in the fourth quarter.

Key moments

The decisive stretch came midway through the third quarter. Tarbes Lourdes outscored Challans 28-19 in the period, with the run sparked by back-to-back steals that led to transition baskets. A three-pointer from the wing extended the lead to 14 points and forced Challans into a timeout.

Challans made a final push in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to eight with just over three minutes remaining, but Tarbes Lourdes responded with a composed offensive possession and two crucial defensive stops. Free throws in the final minute closed out the win.

Tactical story

Tarbes Lourdes’ inside-out attack was effective throughout. Their big men established position in the post, drawing help defense and creating open looks for shooters. When Challans adjusted, Tarbes Lourdes attacked the basket off the dribble and generated second-chance points through offensive rebounds.

Challans’ offense relied heavily on perimeter shooting and individual shot creation. They had success in the first half, but Tarbes Lourdes’ defensive adjustments in the third quarter made those looks harder to come by. The home team also won the rebounding battle, limiting Challans’ extra possessions.

Standout performers

Mathis Lazard led Tarbes Lourdes with 21 points and eight rebounds, consistently winning one-on-one matchups inside. Hugo Pineau was Challans’ top scorer with 19 points, keeping his team within reach for much of the game. Tarbes Lourdes’ backcourt also deserves credit for controlling tempo and making timely shots in the second half.

Standings impact

The win adds an important home result to Tarbes Lourdes’ France Nationale 1 standings total and reinforces their ability to close out games after halftime adjustments. Vendee Challans leave with a competitive performance but will be frustrated by the third-quarter lapse that decided the game. Both teams remain in the thick of a demanding NM1 regular season.
