Union Basket Chartres Metropole Edge CEP Lorient in 91-90 Nationale 1 Thriller

Union Basket Chartres Metropole survived a frantic final minute to beat CEP Lorient 91-90 in a France Nationale 1 basketball matchup on October 24, 2026. In a game that swung repeatedly, the hosts found just enough poise at the free-throw line to close out a one-point win at Halle Jean-Cochet.

The result was a significant early-season statement for Chartres, who matched Lorient’s intensity in transition and made the bigger plays down the stretch. Lorient had chances to steal it, but a missed jump shot at the buzzer left the visitors on the wrong side of a 91-90 scoreline.

Match Overview

Chartres trailed 24-22 after the first quarter but used a strong second period to take a 47-44 lead into halftime. Lorient regained control in the third, outscoring the hosts 23-19, and carried an 88-86 advantage into the final two minutes. The fourth quarter featured four lead changes before Chartres’ late surge.

Key Moments

Lorient appeared to take command when Jordan Williams hit a corner three to make it 84-79 with just over four minutes remaining. Chartres responded with an 8-0 run, capped by a fast-break layup from Theo Lefevre, to reclaim the lead at 87-86. The teams traded baskets until the final 18 seconds, when Chartres guard Enzo Caron drew a foul and made both free throws for the decisive 91-90 edge.

Lorient had one last possession, but a contested mid-range jumper rimmed out as the horn sounded. The visitors were left to rue 14 turnovers, several of which came against Chartres’ late defensive adjustments.

Tactical Story

Chartres switched to a compact 2-3 zone midway through the third quarter, slowing Lorient’s dribble penetration and forcing the visitors into longer, contested jump shots. The hosts also dominated the offensive glass, finishing with a 13-8 advantage in offensive rebounds and converting 16 second-chance points. Lorient shot 11-of-28 from three-point range but went cold in the final five minutes, missing three open looks that could have changed the outcome.

Standout Performers

• Theo Lefevre (Chartres): 24 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, shooting 8-of-15 from the field.
• Moussa Diarra (Chartres): 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks, anchoring the paint.
• Jordan Williams (Lorient): 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in a losing effort.
• Malick Sow (Lorient): 17 points and 8 rebounds, including several key second-half baskets.

Season Impact

The victory strengthens Chartres’ position in the upper half of the France Nationale 1 standings and reinforces their home-court advantage. For Lorient, the one-point loss is a painful reminder of how small margins decide games in a league known for its physical, possession-by-possession style. Both teams will take lessons from a contest that felt more like a playoff game than an October fixture.
