Gimle Take Bergen Bragging Rights With 80-68 Road Win Over Fyllingen

Gimle left Framohallen with the most satisfying kind of victory on Sunday, beating city rivals Fyllingen 80-68 in a Firi-ligaen clash that was decided by a composed fourth quarter from the visitors. In a fixture that always carries extra weight in Bergen basketball, it was Gimle who controlled the closing stages, pulling away over the final ten minutes to secure an important road win.

The result moves Gimle firmly into the upper half of the Firi-ligaen standings, while Fyllingen are left to reflect on a night when their shooting deserted them at the worst possible moment. The final margin of twelve points was built on defence and rebounding rather than a single explosive scoring run.

Match Overview

• League: Firi-ligaen
• Home team: Fyllingen
• Away team: Gimle
• Final score: Fyllingen 68 – 80 Gimle

Fyllingen came into the game hoping to use home advantage and a loud Framohallen crowd, but they never managed to establish a comfortable rhythm on offence. Gimle, by contrast, looked the more settled side from the opening tip, moving the ball patiently and finding good looks against a Fyllingen defence that was forced into far too many rotations.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

• Q1: Fyllingen 18 – 22 Gimle
• Q2: Fyllingen 15 – 20 Gimle
• Q3: Fyllingen 20 – 16 Gimle
• Q4: Fyllingen 15 – 22 Gimle

Gimle's fast start set the tone. A 22-18 opening period gave them early breathing space, and they stretched that advantage to eleven points by halftime at 42-33. Fyllingen responded well after the break, winning the third quarter 20-16 as their guards began attacking the rim with more purpose and the home crowd found its voice.

Trailing 58-53 heading into the fourth, Fyllingen had all the momentum and a realistic path to the win. Instead, Gimle produced their best ten minutes of the night, outscoring the hosts 22-15 to close the game out with room to spare.

Key Moments

The decisive stretch arrived early in the fourth quarter. With Fyllingen within two possessions, Gimle strung together a run built on stops rather than spectacular scoring — a blocked shot at the rim, a defensive rebound and a quick transition basket in the same sequence, followed by a corner three that pushed the lead back toward double digits.

From that point Fyllingen were chasing. Two consecutive turnovers under pressure killed their momentum, and Gimle's free-throw shooting in the final three minutes meant the home side never got the quick scoring burst they needed. When the buzzer sounded, the visitors had comfortably protected what had once been a fragile lead.

Tactical Story

Gimle's most valuable work came at the defensive end. By switching aggressively on screens and forcing Fyllingen's ball-handlers toward the baseline, they turned a team that likes to play fast into a team that had to grind out half-court possessions. Fyllingen's shooting percentage dropped noticeably in the second half, and their second-chance points were limited by Gimle's work on the defensive glass.

Offensively, Gimle showed patience. Rather than settling for early three-point attempts, they worked the ball inside-out, drawing help defenders and then finding shooters on the weak side. That discipline is exactly what wins tight road games in the Firi-ligaen.

Standout Performers

Gimle's backcourt dictated the tempo throughout, combining steady ball-handling with timely shot-making whenever Fyllingen threatened to make a run. Their wing scorers also punished mismatches in the post, an area Fyllingen struggled to contain once they were forced into smaller line-ups.

For Fyllingen, the effort was there. Their guards were aggressive getting to the rim, particularly during the third-quarter comeback, and their interior players competed hard on the boards. The difference was efficiency: too many empty possessions and a cold stretch from the perimeter in the fourth quarter ultimately decided the outcome.

What It Means

For Gimle, this is the sort of win that builds confidence for the rest of the Firi-ligaen campaign. Beating a local rival on the road, and doing it by pulling away late rather than holding on, is a strong statement about their maturity as a group.

For Fyllingen, the defeat is a reminder that in Norway's top basketball league, narrow margins are punished quickly. They remain a dangerous opponent at home, but they will need to find more consistent offence in the closing minutes of tight games if they are to climb the standings.

The two Bergen clubs will meet again later in the season, and on this evidence that return fixt
