Peli Karhut II Women secured a hard-fought 68-64 win over Catz Lappeenranta Women in Finland’s I Divisioona Women on Oct. 29, 2026, using a decisive fourth-quarter run and timely free-throw shooting to hold off a resilient Catz side. The game was close throughout, but Peli Karhut’s defense created just enough separation in the final minutes.

Match Overview

Catz Lappeenranta started with better rhythm and used perimeter shooting to keep Peli Karhut’s defense stretched. Peli Karhut stayed within striking distance by attacking the offensive glass and getting to the free-throw line. The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able to build a double-digit cushion.

The third quarter changed the tone. Peli Karhut increased its ball pressure and forced Catz into several rushed possessions. That defensive energy translated into transition chances, and the home side carried a narrow lead into the final period.

Key Moments

• Fourth-quarter surge: Peli Karhut put together an 8-0 run early in the fourth to turn a tight game into a 62-54 advantage.
• Catz response: Lappeenranta answered with back-to-back perimeter baskets to cut the deficit to two possessions and force a tense finish.
• Clutch free throws: Peli Karhut converted key free throws in the final minute to keep Catz from completing the comeback.

Tactical Story

Peli Karhut’s zone defense became more effective as the game wore on. By shrinking driving lanes and forcing Catz to shoot over length, the home side slowed Lappeenranta’s half-court attack. Catz still found success from the perimeter in spurts, but the consistency wasn’t there in the fourth quarter.

On offense, Peli Karhut did a better job of playing through the paint. The team’s guards probed the defense and kicked out to open shooters, while the frontcourt chased down important offensive rebounds. Catz’s defensive pressure created some turnovers, but Peli Karhut’s composure at the line proved decisive.

Standout Players

Peli Karhut’s leading scorer finished with 18 points and was the team’s most reliable option in the fourth quarter. The guard play was steady, especially against Catz’s late pressure. Peli Karhut also got a strong two-way contribution on the wing, where timely rebounds and deflections helped swing momentum.

For Catz Lappeenranta, the top scorer kept the team in the game with shot-making from the perimeter and finished with 16 points. Lappeenranta’s center controlled the defensive glass for long stretches, but Catz needed one more clean look in the final minute and could not find it.

Table Impact

The win gives Peli Karhut II Women an important boost in the Finland I Divisioona Women standings, rewarding a performance built on defense and late-game execution. For Catz Lappeenranta, the loss is a narrow one, but it highlights the margin between winning and losing in a competitive division: a single scoring run or a handful of free throws can decide the night.
