Match overview

The opening quarter set the tone for a competitive, physical game. Both teams traded baskets early, with Lemkem looking to attack inside and Catz responding through perimeter movement and quick ball reversals. Neither side managed to establish a comfortable lead, and the first half remained tightly contested as defenses adjusted to each other’s preferred actions.

The third quarter brought more of the same. Catz briefly gained momentum by forcing turnovers and scoring in transition, but Lemkem answered with timely shooting and strong work on the offensive glass. Entering the final period, the game was still wide open, and the atmosphere reflected the importance of every possession.

In the closing minutes, Lemkem executed with more composure. The home side managed the clock, attacked the right matchups, and made enough free throws to stay in front. Catz had a final chance to steal the win, but Lemkem’s defense held firm to preserve the one-point result.

Key moments

• Back-and-forth first half: Both teams traded runs, but neither could build a double-digit advantage.
• Third-quarter response: After Catz created momentum with defensive pressure, Lemkem answered with key baskets to keep the game level.
• Final-minute execution: Lemkem made the crucial stops and free throws, while Catz could not convert their last meaningful opportunity.

Tactical story

Lemkem’s victory was built on resilience and interior execution. The home side worked hard on the offensive boards, creating extra possessions that proved valuable in such a close game. They also did a good job of drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line, which helped them stay ahead during the tense final quarter.

Catz’s defensive pressure caused problems at times, and their ability to turn steals into quick points kept them in the contest. However, their half-court offense became less fluid late in the game, and Lemkem’s disciplined rotations forced contested shots. The one-point margin reflected how evenly matched the teams were, but Lemkem’s late-game decision-making and rebounding edge were decisive.

Standout performers

Lemkem’s leading scorers carried the offense through difficult stretches, while the team’s frontcourt players made crucial contributions on the glass and at the defensive end. Catz received strong efforts from their perimeter players, who kept the visitors within striking distance, but the team could not find one final scoring play when it mattered most. The composure of Lemkem’s guards in the closing minutes stood out in a game where mistakes were quickly punished.

Season impact

This one-point win is a significant confidence boost for Lemkem Women in the Finland I Divisioona Women. Close victories at home can shape a season, especially when a team proves it can execute under pressure. Catz Lappeenranta Women will take encouragement from their fight and defensive intensity, but will also know that a few better decisions in the final two minutes could have changed the outcome.

At 63-62, the result was as tight as the score suggests. Lemkem found just enough offense, just enough rebounding, and just enough late-game discipline to edge a contest that could easily have gone either way.
