How the game turned

Helsingin NMKY started with energy and kept the game within reach through the first half. The hosts moved the ball well at times and found scoring opportunities in the paint, but Pantterit’s defense began to tighten as the game wore on.

The third quarter proved to be the key stretch. Pantterit outscored Helsingin NMKY 17-13 in that period, forcing turnovers and converting them into points at the other end. The visitors also controlled the defensive glass, limiting second-chance opportunities and making the hosts work harder for every shot.

In the fourth quarter, Helsingin NMKY pushed back and cut into the lead with a series of determined possessions. However, Pantterit remained calm under pressure. The visitors slowed the tempo, drew fouls, and knocked down important free throws in the final minutes to keep the home side at arm’s length.

Standout contributions and tactical notes

Pantterit’s victory was built on defense and timely shot-making. The visitors did not rely on a single scorer, instead getting contributions from multiple players across the rotation. Their ability to attack the basket and draw contact helped them maintain an edge at the free-throw line.

Helsingin NMKY had encouraging moments, particularly with its half-court ball movement and interior scoring, but the hosts struggled to string together stops when they needed them most. A few empty possessions in the third quarter allowed Pantterit to build the cushion that ultimately decided the game.

What the result means

The road win is an important result for Pantterit Women in the Finland I Divisioona Women standings and gives the team confidence heading into its next games. For Helsingin NMKY Women, the loss is a reminder that small margins matter; the hosts were competitive for long stretches but could not quite match Pantterit’s execution in the decisive moments.

Pantterit will look to build on its defensive intensity and balanced scoring, while Helsingin NMKY will focus on improving its third-quarter production and limiting turnovers in close games.
