Espoo Basket Team 2 Women produced one of the most emphatic performances of their Finland I Divisioona Women campaign, dismantling Pyrinto Akatemia Women 95-58 at home on 18 October 2026. The 37-point margin told the story of a contest that was never truly in doubt after the opening quarter, with Espoo’s depth, defensive pressure and transition scoring overwhelming the visitors for long stretches.

A dominant start sets the tone

Espoo came out with intent from the opening tip, pushing the pace and attacking the basket before Pyrinto Akatemia had settled into their defensive shape. A 24-14 first-quarter advantage gave the home side early control, and rather than easing off, Espoo accelerated. By halftime the lead had swelled to 51-30, with the home bench contributing meaningful minutes and the defensive rotations forcing a string of contested shots at the other end.

The third quarter effectively ended any lingering hope of a Pyrinto comeback. Espoo opened the second half with a sustained run built on steals, quick outlet passes and efficient finishing around the rim. When the visitors attempted to slow the game down, Espoo’s half-court execution remained sharp, generating open looks from the perimeter and second-chance points through aggressive offensive rebounding.

Quarter-by-quarter scoring

• First quarter: Espoo 24-14 Pyrinto Akatemia
• Second quarter: Espoo 27-16 Pyrinto Akatemia
• Third quarter: Espoo 22-15 Pyrinto Akatemia
• Fourth quarter: Espoo 22-13 Pyrinto Akatemia

The consistency across all four periods was notable. Espoo scored at least 22 points in every quarter while holding Pyrinto to 16 or fewer in three of the four frames. That balance reflected a team performance rather than reliance on a single hot hand.

Standout performers and tactical story

Espoo’s offense flowed through patient ball movement and decisive cuts, with the guard rotation constantly probing the Pyrinto defense. Emma Korhonen led the scoring effort with 22 points and eight rebounds, repeatedly hurting the visitors in the paint and from mid-range. Laura Nieminen added 18 points and seven assists, controlling the tempo and finding open teammates in transition. Sanni Virtanen chipped in 14 points, including a pair of timely three-pointers in the second quarter that helped break the game open.

Defensively, Espoo’s full-court pressure disrupted Pyrinto’s rhythm and created easy baskets. The home side turned live-ball turnovers into points and consistently beat the visitors down the floor. Pyrinto’s half-court sets often ended in rushed attempts, and their leading scorer, Ella Mäkinen, finished with 16 points but had to work hard for every look.

What the result means

The victory strengthens Espoo Basket Team 2 Women’s position in the Finland I Divisioona Women standings and underlines their potential as a difficult matchup for any opponent. Their ability to rotate players without losing intensity will be crucial as the season progresses. For Pyrinto Akatemia Women, the result offers a clear learning opportunity: defensive transition and ball security must improve quickly if they are to compete with the league’s stronger sides.

Espoo will look to carry the momentum into their next fixture, while Pyrinto Akatemia will focus on regrouping and finding more consistent offensive execution. On this evidence, Espoo’s 95-58 win was as complete a team performance as the league has seen this season.
