Key moments

The home side recovered to tie the game at 83-83, but Korfez kept its composure, scoring the next four points through a layup and two free throws. Valmiera had one last chance to force overtime, but a contested perimeter attempt fell short and Korfez secured the rebound to close out the win.

Tactical story

Korfez’s ability to change defensive looks in the second half proved important. The visitors mixed man-to-man pressure with a compact zone that slowed Valmiera’s penetration and forced several late turnovers. Korfez also won the offensive rebounding battle in the closing minutes, creating extra possessions at a stage when clean looks were difficult to find. Valmiera shot well enough from outside to stay in front for long stretches, but their late shot selection and a few empty possessions proved costly.

Standout performers

Valmiera’s wing scorer carried much of the offensive load, finishing with a game-high 22 points and knocking down several important shots in the third quarter. Their point guard added steady distribution and kept the offense organized against pressure. For Korfez, the backcourt combination of penetration and perimeter shooting was the difference, while the frontcourt’s work on the glass gave the visitors the extra edge in the final minutes.

What it means

The road win gives Glint Korfez Basket a valuable result in the FIBA Europe Cup regular season and underlines their ability to execute in close games. For Valmiera, the loss is a frustrating one because they led in the fourth quarter and had chances to take control. The narrow margin also means tiebreakers and point differential could become relevant as the group phase develops.
