Keravnos Strovolos produced one of the more convincing road performances of the FIBA Europe Cup week, defeating Nitra Blue Wings 88-78 on October 15, 2026. The Cypriot visitors led for almost the entire second half, answering every Nitra run with a timely basket and closing the game out from the free-throw line.

Match Overview

Nitra came into the game hoping to use home advantage to control the tempo, and for the first quarter that plan largely worked. But Keravnos found their shooting touch in the second period, took the lead before halftime and never let it go. A 24-point opening quarter from the visitors set the tone, and their ability to score out of both half-court sets and transition kept Nitra chasing for the rest of the evening.

Quarter-by-Quarter Scoring

• First quarter: Nitra 20, Keravnos 24
• Second quarter: Nitra 19, Keravnos 22
• Third quarter: Nitra 21, Keravnos 20
• Fourth quarter: Nitra 18, Keravnos 22
• Final: Nitra Blue Wings 78, Keravnos Strovolos 88

Key Moments

The decisive stretch came late in the second quarter. Nitra had pulled within a single point after a quick 7-0 run, but Keravnos responded with back-to-back three-pointers and a fast-break layup to push the lead back to eight at the interval. That sequence forced Nitra into a chase mode they never fully escaped.

Nitra's best chance came midway through the fourth quarter, when a pair of defensive stops and a corner three cut the deficit to five. Keravnos immediately called timeout, ran a set play for an open look inside and converted an and-one to restore a comfortable margin. From there, the visitors went to the line repeatedly and converted, closing out the ten-point win without further drama.

Tactical Story

Keravnos won this game with balance. They shared the ball, generated quality looks from beyond the arc and punished Nitra's help defense with crisp extra passes. Defensively, they were content to concede some interior points in exchange for taking away the three-point line, and Nitra's shooting from deep never quite matched what the home crowd needed.

Nitra's problems were mainly on the defensive glass. Second-chance points allowed Keravnos to survive several scoreless stretches and kept the pressure on. Offensively, Nitra's guards created plenty of penetration, but the finishing around the rim was inconsistent, and a handful of empty possessions in the third quarter proved costly in a game decided by a ten-point gap.

Standout Players

Keravnos got a complete performance from their perimeter rotation, with multiple players finishing in double figures and the offense flowing through whoever had the hot hand. Their primary ball-handler was excellent in pick-and-roll situations, repeatedly drawing two defenders and finding open shooters. For Nitra, the bright spots came from their athletic wings, who attacked the rim aggressively and kept the scoreboard moving even when the offense stalled.

What It Means

This is a significant result in the FIBA Europe Cup group phase. Winning away from home by double digits gives Keravnos Strovolos valuable momentum and a strong early platform in the standings, while Nitra Blue Wings are left with a home defeat they will need to offset on the road later in the campaign. In a competition where tiebreakers and point differentials often decide qualification, a ten-point margin is worth more than it might first appear.

For Nitra, the message is clear: the defensive rebounding and late-game execution that deserted them here must improve quickly. For Keravnos, the blueprint is simple — balanced scoring, disciplined defense and composure at the free-throw line — and on this evidence, it is a formula that travels well.
