Mykonos Betsson B.C. held off Lokomotiv Plovdiv 86-84 in a tightly contested FIBA Europe Cup matchup, surviving a late push and making the key plays on both ends in the final minutes. The two-point win was built on timely shot-making, strong rebounding, and a defensive stand in the closing possession.

Lokomotiv Plovdiv kept the game close throughout, answering Mykonos runs with efficient half-court execution and physical play inside. The contest remained uncertain until the final seconds, when Mykonos managed to protect its narrow lead.

Match overview

Both teams traded baskets early, with Mykonos using perimeter shooting and ball movement to create openings. Lokomotiv Plovdiv responded by attacking the paint and drawing fouls. Neither side could build a double-digit cushion, and the lead changed hands several times.

The fourth quarter turned into a possession-by-possession battle. Mykonos found just enough separation behind timely guard play, while Lokomotiv’s frontcourt kept the visitors within striking distance. In the end, Mykonos’ composure at the free-throw line and on the final defensive possession made the difference.

Key moments

The decisive sequence came in the final minute. Mykonos converted a tough basket to regain the lead, then forced Lokomotiv into a contested shot on the other end. A crucial defensive rebound gave the hosts possession with a chance to extend the advantage, and they made enough free throws to hold on.

Lokomotiv had a final opportunity to tie or win the game, but Mykonos’ defense stayed disciplined and contested the last look. The rebound and ensuing clock management sealed the narrow victory.

Standout performers

Mykonos’ backcourt led the way with timely scoring and playmaking, keeping the offense organized under pressure. The hosts also received important contributions on the glass, including several offensive rebounds that extended possessions in the second half. Defensively, Mykonos’ guards did a solid job of containing dribble penetration late.

Lokomotiv Plovdiv’s frontcourt was productive around the rim, and the visitors’ guards created good looks with penetration and kick-outs. However, a few empty possessions in the final minutes proved costly in such a close game.

Tactical story

Mykonos Betsson B.C. relied on spacing and quick ball movement to offset Lokomotiv’s physicality. The hosts used ball screens to create mismatches and attacked closeouts when Lokomotiv’s defense rotated. Defensively, Mykonos mixed in help schemes to protect the paint without surrendering too many open threes.

Lokomotiv Plovdiv’s best stretches came when it played through the post and crashed the offensive glass. The visitors’ physical approach kept them in the game, but Mykonos’ late-game discipline and shot selection ultimately tilted the result.

Group-stage impact

The two-point win is a valuable result for Mykonos Betsson B.C. in the FIBA Europe Cup group stage, especially in a game that could matter for tiebreakers later in the competition. For Lokomotiv Plovdiv, the loss is a frustrating one, but the performance showed enough fight and interior strength to suggest the team will remain competitive in the group. Mykonos will take confidence from closing out a tight game, while Lokomotiv will focus on executing better in the final minutes.
