Les Lions de Geneve Beat Absheron BK 105-83 in FIBA Europe Cup Showcase

Les Lions de Geneve produced a fluent, high-scoring road performance in the FIBA Europe Cup on Wednesday, defeating Absheron BK 105-83 to claim a comfortable 22-point victory. The Swiss side crossed the century mark in a competition where defensive scouting is typically detailed, underlining the quality of their ball movement and shooting on the night.

Absheron, playing in front of their home support, stayed within touching distance through the opening quarter but could not match the visitors' efficiency over the full 40 minutes. By the final period, Geneva's control of the game was absolute.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

The pattern was consistent: Geneva won every quarter, and the margins were steady rather than explosive. An eight-point lead after ten minutes became 13 by half-time, then 17 by the end of the third. Absheron kept scoring reasonably well — 83 points is no small total — but they simply could not produce the defensive stops needed to close the gap.

Offensive Efficiency the Difference

Shooting 105 points on the road in European competition requires a combination of accuracy and discipline, and Geneva delivered both. Their half-court offence featured sharp ball reversal, effective screening action, and a willingness to take the open shot when it appeared rather than forcing contested attempts. The result was a spread-out scoring effort that made it difficult for Absheron to key in on any single threat.

Absheron's own offence was not the problem. They put up a respectable 83 points and found success when attacking the rim and in early offence. The issue was at the other end, where they conceded 27, 26, 24 and 28 points across the four periods — a level of defensive leakage that no team can absorb in FIBA Europe Cup play.

Tactical Story

Geneva's ability to convert defensive rebounds into transition points proved decisive. Whenever Absheron missed, the visitors pushed the pace and attacked before the defence could organise. In the half-court, Geneva's spacing created driving lanes, and when help arrived, the ball found open shooters on the perimeter.

Absheron's coaching staff will likely point to rebounding and transition defence as the primary areas for review. Allowing a 100-point night at home is a difficult result to digest, but the Azeri side showed enough offensive quality to suggest that a more disciplined defensive performance could immediately improve their results in the group phase.

Standings and Qualification Context

In FIBA Europe Cup group play, point differential can be as important as wins and losses, and a 22-point margin is a meaningful swing in that calculation. Geneva's ability to keep extending their lead through the fourth quarter, rather than easing off, could prove valuable when the group is decided. Absheron, meanwhile, will need to find home wins — and ideally better margins — to stay in qualification contention.

Up Next

Both clubs continue their FIBA Europe Cup campaigns in the coming weeks, with Geneva looking to build on this road victory and Absheron determined to deliver a stronger defensive display in front of their own fans. On this evidence, Les Lions de Geneve look well equipped for a serious run in the competition.
