Fox Divas W produced a dominant 106-69 road victory over Les Hippos (W) in the FIBA Basketball Africa Women League on Thursday night, powered by a blistering first half and a relentless transition attack. The visitors set the tone early and never allowed Les Hippos to settle, turning the contest into a statement win.

Fox Divas set the tone early

Fox Divas came out with intense full-court pressure and pushed the pace at every opportunity. They opened the game with a 12-2 run and led 31-16 after the first quarter. Les Hippos struggled to handle the pressure, committing eight turnovers in the opening period alone. Fox Divas converted those mistakes into easy baskets and built a 54-33 halftime lead.

The third quarter was more of the same. Fox Divas extended their advantage to 80-52 by the end of the period, and the final 10 minutes allowed both benches to see extended minutes. The 37-point margin reflected the visitors’ control on both ends of the floor.

Quarter-by-quarter dominance

• First quarter: Fox Divas 31, Les Hippos 16.
• Second quarter: Fox Divas 23, Les Hippos 17.
• Third quarter: Fox Divas 26, Les Hippos 19.
• Fourth quarter: Fox Divas 26, Les Hippos 17.

Fox Divas shot 52% from the field and knocked down 14 three-pointers. They also recorded 28 fast-break points and scored 22 points off turnovers. Les Hippos, by contrast, shot 38% and were forced into 22 turnovers. The rebounding battle was closer, but Fox Divas’ ability to turn defense into instant offense made the difference.

Defense and transition game

Fox Divas’ defensive intensity was the foundation of the win. They trapped ball handlers near midcourt, rotated quickly in the passing lanes, and forced Les Hippos into hurried decisions. The visitors’ guards consistently beat the home team down the floor, creating layup opportunities before the defense could set. When Les Hippos did break the press, Fox Divas recovered well and contested shots at the rim.

On offense, Fox Divas shared the ball effectively, finishing with 24 assists. Their ball movement stretched the Les Hippos defense and created open looks from beyond the arc. The balanced scoring made it difficult for the home side to key in on any single player.

Standout performers

Nneka Obi led Fox Divas with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, dominating inside and out. Amina Diallo added 18 points and six steals, while point guard Fatou Camara finished with 14 points and 11 assists. For Les Hippos, Grace Mwangi scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Aisha Kone added 13 points off the bench. Despite the loss, the home side’s bench showed energy in the fourth quarter.

FIBA Africa Women League impact

The victory strengthens Fox Divas’ position in the FIBA Basketball Africa Women League standings and sends a warning to the rest of the competition. Their pressure defense and transition scoring are difficult to contain when they are clicking. Les Hippos will need to regroup quickly, particularly in handling pressure and limiting turnovers, as they prepare for their next fixture. For Fox Divas, the challenge will be maintaining this level of intensity as the schedule progresses.
