CBK Mersin Women made a statement in the EuroCup Women group phase on October 22, 2026, dismantling Universitario de Ferrol Women 85-42. The Turkish side led from the opening minutes and never allowed the Spanish club to settle, turning the game into a one-sided contest through pressure defense, quick ball movement and superior depth.

Match overview

Mersin set the tone immediately with a 24-9 first quarter, forcing Ferrol into turnovers and hurried shots. The second period followed a similar pattern: Mersin rotated fresh legs, kept the defensive intensity high and pushed the lead to 46-21 by halftime. Ferrol showed brief signs of life after the break, but Mersin’s third-quarter run ended any realistic comeback hopes.

By the final quarter, the visitors were playing with confidence and freedom, while Ferrol struggled to create clean looks against a defense that closed every driving lane. The 43-point margin reflected Mersin’s control in nearly every phase: shooting percentage, rebounding, transition scoring and bench production.

Key moments

The decisive stretch came early. Leading 10-6, Mersin put together a 17-0 run that silenced the home crowd and forced Ferrol into a timeout. The run featured back-to-back steals, a pair of fast-break layups and a three-pointer from the wing. Ferrol never recovered its rhythm, and Mersin’s lead never dipped below 20 points after the second quarter.

Tactical story

Mersin’s full-court pressure was the story of the night. Ferrol committed 24 turnovers, many of them under pressure in the backcourt, and Mersin converted those mistakes into easy points. The visitors also dominated the glass and moved the ball brilliantly in the half-court, finishing with a balanced scoring effort. Ferrol’s half-court offense became predictable, relying on contested perimeter shots rather than working the ball inside.

Standout players

Derin Erdogan led Mersin with 20 points and seven assists, controlling the pace from the point guard position. Elif Bayram added 16 points and nine rebounds, while the bench contributed 28 points. For Ferrol, Maria Perez was the bright spot with 11 points, but the home side lacked a consistent secondary scoring option. Mersin’s defensive rotations and transition finishing stood out throughout the evening.

Season impact

This result gives Mersin a significant point-differential advantage in the group and reinforces its credentials as a contender in the EuroCup Women. Ferrol will need to regroup quickly, particularly on offense, before the next round of fixtures. Mersin, meanwhile, looks increasingly comfortable on the road and has the defensive identity to trouble any opponent in the competition.
