Perfumerias Avenida Women opened their EuroCup Women campaign in commanding fashion, defeating MBK Ruzomberok Women 75-64 on 15 October 2026. The Spanish giants controlled the game from the middle of the first quarter onwards, using defensive pressure and inside dominance to build a lead they never seriously surrendered.

Match Overview

Avenida came into the fixture as one of the most decorated clubs in European women's basketball and played like it, establishing an early rhythm on both ends of the floor. Ruzomberok, the Slovak champions, competed hard and showed genuine quality in transition, but struggled to cope with Avenida's size in the paint and their relentless help defence.

• First quarter: Avenida 20 – 14 Ruzomberok
• Second quarter: Avenida 18 – 16 Ruzomberok
• Third quarter: Avenida 19 – 17 Ruzomberok
• Fourth quarter: Avenida 18 – 17 Ruzomberok
• Final: Perfumerias Avenida Women 75 – 64 MBK Ruzomberok Women

The quarter-by-quarter breakdown highlights the hosts' consistency: Avenida won every period, never allowing their opponents to string together the kind of run that would have made the closing minutes uncomfortable.

Key Moments

The tone was set in the opening seven minutes, when Avenida raced to a double-digit lead behind a steady diet of post entries and offensive rebounds. Ruzomberok steadied themselves late in the first quarter and trimmed the deficit to six, but the second period brought a familiar pattern: every Slovak basket was answered almost immediately at the other end.

The decisive stretch came midway through the third quarter. Avenida's guards turned defensive pressure into transition points, capping a 9-2 run that stretched the lead to 15 and effectively broke the game open. Ruzomberok responded with a spirited fourth-quarter effort, hitting a pair of three-pointers to cut the margin to single digits with roughly three minutes remaining, but Avenida closed out the game with disciplined half-court possessions and free throws.

Tactical Story

Avenida's game plan was straightforward and ruthlessly executed: dominate the interior, control the defensive glass and force Ruzomberok to beat them from the perimeter. The Spanish side's post players demanded constant attention, which opened up driving lanes and kick-out opportunities. On defence, Avenida's rotations were sharp, with help arriving early whenever Ruzomberok attempted to attack off the dribble.

Ruzomberok's best basketball came when they played quickly. Their guards pushed the tempo after makes and misses alike, and their wings were willing shooters from beyond the arc. However, the Slovak side's half-court offence became stagnant when Avenida switched and crowded the paint, leading to contested jumpers and a series of late-shot-clock possessions. Rebounding told much of the story, with the hosts winning the battle on the boards at both ends.

Standout Players

Avenida's frontcourt was the engine of the win, combining efficient finishing around the rim with a strong presence on the offensive glass. Their point guard managed the game intelligently, controlling tempo and finding shooters when the defence collapsed. Off the bench, Avenida received meaningful minutes that kept the intensity high without any drop in production.

For Ruzomberok, the backcourt pairing consistently competed and refused to let the game drift, while their captain provided leadership and timely scoring in the second half. The Slovak side's shooting guard was a bright spot from beyond the arc, and their interior players battled admirably against a physically superior opponent.

Season Impact

Starting a EuroCup Women group with a home win is exactly what Avenida wanted, and the margin reflects their status as one of the competition's leading contenders. Ruzomberok leave Spain with plenty of positives despite the defeat: they competed for 40 minutes, kept the margin respectable against elite opposition and demonstrated the shooting and pace that will trouble other teams in the group. Both sides now prepare for the next round, with Avenida aiming to build momentum and the Slovak champions targeting a home response.
