EuroCup Women action resumes on 16 October 2026 with a compelling Group Phase encounter as Besiktas JK Women host Maccabi Ashdod Women at 00:00, a game that could shape the trajectory of both clubs' continental campaigns.

Match overview

European club basketball rarely offers a more intriguing contrast than a Turkish powerhouse meeting an Israeli side known for tactical discipline. Besiktas JK Women bring the resources and depth of one of Turkey's leading women's programmes, while Maccabi Ashdod Women travel with a reputation for playing smart, disciplined basketball that frustrates more talented rosters.

The midnight tip-off is a product of European scheduling across multiple time zones, and it adds a layer of difficulty: both teams must manage recovery, preparation and rhythm on an unusual timetable.

The competition: EuroCup Women

EuroCup Women is the second tier of European women's club basketball, sitting just below EuroLeague Women. It attracts a broad field of national champions and cup winners from across the continent, and the competition is known for its deep group phase, its punishing travel schedule and its tendency to produce breakout performances from young players.

• Format: group phase followed by knockout rounds, with home-and-away ties in the latter stages.
• Stakes: progression from the group is the first objective; European silverware is the ultimate prize.
• Style: high-level tactical basketball, with strong emphasis on defensive schemes and half-court execution.

Tactical story

Besiktas will want to impose their physicality. Their frontcourt typically looks to establish deep post position early, forcing opponents into double teams that open up the perimeter game. Their defensive identity is built on aggressive switching and help rotations designed to take away the opponents' best shooter.

Maccabi Ashdod's counter is patience. They are comfortable playing deep into the shot clock, running their offensive sets to completion and attacking mismatches rather than forcing early attempts. If they can keep the game in the half court and limit live-ball turnovers, they will give themselves a chance to stay close into the fourth quarter.

Players to watch

For Besiktas, the focus will be on their leading scorer — a versatile perimeter player capable of creating shots both off the catch and off the dribble — and on their defensive anchor, who protects the rim and controls the defensive glass. Maccabi Ashdod will look to their point guard to organise the offense under pressure, and to an experienced forward whose mid-range game and rebounding are central to the team's balance.

Head-to-head and form context

Meetings between Turkish and Israeli clubs in European competition have historically been tight, physical affairs. Both leagues are highly competitive domestically, which means players arrive at EuroCup fixtures already battle-tested. The team that adapts faster to the unusual tip-off time and the pressure of continental play typically holds the advantage.

What's at stake

In group-phase basketball, home wins are the currency that buys qualification. Besiktas know that failing to protect their own court makes the away fixtures considerably more difficult. For Maccabi Ashdod, a road victory here would be a significant result, giving them confidence and a valuable head-to-head edge in the standings.

Expect a low-scoring, tightly contested first half, with the game opening up after the break as both coaches go deeper into their rotations. Tip-off is at 00:00 on 16 October 2026.
