Key moments

The game’s defining sequence came early in the third quarter. Leading 49-30, Celje forced three consecutive Brno turnovers and converted each one into transition points. A corner three from Celje’s shooting guard capped the run and pushed the margin to 64-34. Brno tried to respond with a zone defense, but Celje’s ball movement created open looks from the perimeter and easy entries into the post. The final quarter was played at a lower intensity, with Celje’s bench seeing extended minutes.

Tactical story

Celje’s defensive pressure was the story of the night. The hosts trapped Brno’s ball handlers on the wings and rotated aggressively to close out on shooters. That pressure led to 22 turnovers and limited Brno’s half-court offense to contested jumpers. Offensively, Celje shared the ball beautifully, finishing with 24 assists on 34 made field goals. The Slovenian side also dominated the glass, pulling down 13 offensive rebounds and generating repeated second-chance opportunities. Brno’s best moments came when it slowed the tempo and attacked the basket, but those stretches were too infrequent.

Standout performers

Celje’s shooting guard led all scorers with 20 points, including four three-pointers, while its center added 16 points and 10 rebounds. The point guard finished with 12 points and nine assists, orchestrating the attack with poise. Brno’s leading scorer managed 15 points but needed 14 shot attempts, and the team’s second-leading scorer was held to 11 points on 4-of-12 shooting. Celje’s bench contributed 24 points, highlighting the depth that made the difference.

Season impact

The 30-point win gives Athlete Celje Women’s an important early boost in EuroCup Women group play, especially on point differential. The result sends a clear message that the Slovenian club intends to compete for a top spot in its group. For KP Brno Women, the loss is a learning experience, but the margin will hurt if tiebreakers come into play later in the campaign. Brno will need to improve its ball security and transition defense before its next EuroCup Women fixture.
