Panathinaikos AKTOR B.C. Dominate Maccabi Tel Aviv 90-67

Panathinaikos AKTOR B.C. delivered a statement performance in the EuroLeague on October 3, 2026, defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv 90-67 at home. The Greek giants controlled the game from the opening quarter, using elite defense and balanced scoring to secure a 23-point win. The victory moves Panathinaikos to 1-0 in the EuroLeague standings and hands Maccabi an early road loss.

Played in front of a loud home crowd, the contest quickly became a showcase of Panathinaikos' depth. The hosts never trailed after the first few minutes and led by double digits for most of the night.

Match Overview

Panathinaikos set the tone with intense perimeter defense. Maccabi's guards were pushed away from the three-point line and forced into contested mid-range shots. On offense, Panathinaikos shared the ball, attacked closeouts, and punished Maccabi on the offensive glass. The first quarter ended with the home side in control, and the lead only grew from there.

Maccabi had brief sparks in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to single digits behind transition baskets. But Panathinaikos responded with a run before halftime and then blew the game open in the third. The final quarter was largely academic, with both benches seeing minutes.

Key Moments

• First-quarter lockdown: Panathinaikos held Maccabi to a low shooting percentage and built an early cushion.
• Second-quarter counterpunch: After Maccabi trimmed the lead, Panathinaikos closed the half with a decisive run.
• Third-quarter knockout: The hosts opened the second half with a flurry of threes and fast-break points, pushing the margin past 20.

Standout Performers

Panathinaikos got contributions across the roster. The starting backcourt controlled pace and knocked down open shots, while the frontline protected the rim and finished around the basket. The bench added energy, extending the lead when Maccabi's starters rested. Maccabi's top scorer fought hard, but the team as a whole struggled with turnovers and defensive rebounding.

For Maccabi, the loss highlights the challenge of winning on the road in the EuroLeague against a title contender. The Israeli club will need better ball security and more consistent outside shooting to compete in the regular season.

Tactical Story and EuroLeague Impact

Panathinaikos' defensive scheme was the story. The hosts switched on nearly every screen, kept Maccabi out of the paint, and forced difficult pull-up jumpers. When Maccabi tried to post up, Panathinaikos sent double-teams and recovered quickly to shooters. Offensively, Panathinaikos played with pace but rarely forced shots, finishing with a high assist total.

The 90-67 win is a strong early boost to Panathinaikos' point differential in the EuroLeague standings. In a league where tiebreakers can decide home-court advantage in the playoffs, a 23-point margin is valuable. Maccabi, meanwhile, will look to regroup before its next fixture and avoid falling into an early hole in the standings.
