Ratiopharm Ulm Hold Off KK Bosna in High-Scoring EuroCup Opener

Ratiopharm Ulm opened their EuroCup Basketball campaign with a hard-fought 102-93 victory over KK Bosna ASA BH TELECOM, entertaining a lively home crowd with an offensive display that showcased both the depth of their roster and the resilience of their visiting opponents. The win gives Ulm an early foothold in the group phase standings, while Bosna leave with plenty of positives despite the loss.

Match Overview

From the opening tip, the game carried the tempo of a genuine European shootout. Ulm pushed the pace in transition and found good looks from the perimeter, while Bosna answered with patient half-court execution and timely three-point shooting. The first half set the tone for a contest in which neither side allowed the other to pull away comfortably, with the lead changing hands multiple times before Ulm began to edge ahead.

By the final buzzer, the scoreboard read 102-93 in favor of the home side — a nine-point margin that flattered Ulm only slightly, given how competitive stretches of the second half proved to be. Reaching the century mark at home is a meaningful statement in EuroCup play, where defensive scouting is typically sharp and scoring runs are hard to sustain.

Key Moments

• Early perimeter barrage: Ulm came out firing from beyond the arc, forcing Bosna into early rotations and opening driving lanes.
• Bosna's second-quarter response: The visitors settled into their half-court sets and trimmed the deficit with efficient inside-out play.
• Third-quarter separation: A decisive Ulm run after the break, built on defensive stops and fast-break points, created the cushion that ultimately decided the game.
• Closing free throws: Ulm iced the contest at the line in the final minutes, denying Bosna any realistic path to a comeback.

Tactical Story

Ulm's game plan revolved around tempo. Their guards pushed the ball after made baskets and rebounds, aiming to score before Bosna's defense could set. That approach paid dividends in the second half, when fatigue and foul trouble began to affect the visitors' rotations. Ulm's ball movement also stood out, with multiple players contributing on the scoresheet rather than relying on a single dominant scorer.

Bosna, for their part, were far from passive. Their half-court offense generated quality looks, and their ability to keep the game within reach into the fourth quarter speaks to their discipline. The difference ultimately came at the defensive end, where Ulm's ability to string together stops in the third quarter proved decisive.

Standout Performances

Ulm's backcourt controlled the rhythm of the game, balancing scoring with playmaking, while their frontcourt contributed crucial second-chance points. Bosna's guards kept their team in contention with confident shot-making, and their interior players battled on the boards against a physically imposing opponent. In a game decided by nine points, those individual efforts kept the contest compelling until the final minutes.

Season Impact

For Ulm, the result is an important early building block in the EuroCup group phase. Home victories are currency in continental competition, and protecting their own floor against a competitive Bosna side sets a positive tone for the fixtures ahead. Bosna, meanwhile, will take encouragement from a road performance in which they scored 93 points against a strong opponent — a total that would win them plenty of games if paired with tighter defense.
