Derthona Basket edged out Le Mans 89-83 in a hard-fought EuroCup Basketball clash, holding off a determined late surge to protect their home court. The six-point margin reflects a game that stayed tense deep into the fourth quarter, with both sides trading runs before Derthona's composure at the free-throw line sealed the result.

Match Overview

EuroCup Basketball regularly delivers tight, high-quality contests, and this one was no exception. Derthona came out with intensity, moving the ball crisply and finding gaps in Le Mans' defense. The French side responded with their own scoring bursts, keeping the deficit manageable throughout. The game was decided in the closing minutes, when Derthona executed better in key possessions.

Key Moments

• First half: Derthona built a small but consistent lead behind efficient shooting and solid defensive rebounding.
• Third quarter: Le Mans cut into the advantage with a strong offensive stretch, briefly threatening to take control.
• Fourth quarter: The teams exchanged leads before Derthona hit timely shots to pull away.
• Final minute: Clutch free throws and a crucial defensive stop secured the win for the hosts.

Tactical Story

Derthona's half-court offense was the difference. They used ball screens effectively to create mismatches, and their perimeter shooting kept Le Mans from packing the paint. Defensively, the Italian side adjusted well after halftime, tightening their rotations and forcing Le Mans into lower-percentage attempts. Le Mans' transition game caused problems in spurts, but they could not sustain that pressure for long enough stretches.

Standout Performers

Several Derthona players stepped up in critical moments, particularly in the fourth quarter when the game hung in the balance. Their ball handlers managed the clock well and made smart decisions under pressure. Le Mans deserved credit for their resilience, with their leading scorers keeping the game alive, but they lacked the final push needed to complete the comeback.

Table and Competition Impact

Home wins in EuroCup Basketball carry extra weight, and this result strengthens Derthona Basket's position in their group. For Le Mans, it is a narrow miss that could prove important when tiebreakers are calculated later in the campaign. Both teams will take lessons from a contest decided by execution in the final minutes.
