Chemcats Chemnitz secured an impressive 88-80 road victory over Aquila Basket Trento in EuroCup Basketball on October 14, 2026, relying on a balanced attack and a decisive third-quarter run to silence the home crowd. The win lifts Chemnitz in the early-season EuroCup standings and leaves Trento searching for consistency on both ends of the floor.

Match Overview

From the opening tip, Chemnitz looked comfortable in Trento’s building. The visitors moved the ball sharply and knocked down outside shots, taking a 24-21 lead after the first quarter. Trento answered with a more patient second-quarter approach, but Chemnitz still won the period 22-19 to carry a 46-40 advantage into halftime.

The third quarter proved to be the turning point. Chemnitz opened with a 10-2 burst, pushing the margin to 14, and Trento never fully recovered. By the end of the period, the visitors led 69-58. Trento made a late push in the fourth, cutting the deficit to six with under four minutes remaining, but Chemnitz responded with timely baskets and free throws to close out the 88-80 win.

Chemnitz finished with four players in double figures and shot 12-of-28 from three-point range, while Trento managed just 7-of-25 from beyond the arc. The visitors also won the rebounding battle 37-32 and converted 15 Trento turnovers into 18 points.

Key Moments

• First quarter: Chemnitz used an 8-0 run midway through the period to take an early 18-12 lead before Trento closed the gap.
• Second quarter: Trento briefly tied the game at 31-31, but Chemnitz ended the half on a 15-9 run.
• Third quarter: A 10-2 Chemnitz surge in the first three minutes created the game’s decisive separation.
• Fourth quarter: Trento trimmed the lead to 78-72, but Chemnitz scored on three straight possessions to seal it.

Tactical Story

Chemnitz’s pick-and-roll offense gave Trento trouble all night. The German side repeatedly forced switches and attacked the paint, then kicked out to open shooters when Trento’s help defense collapsed. That inside-out approach produced a steady stream of high-quality looks and kept Trento from stringing together defensive stops.

Defensively, Chemnitz disrupted Trento’s half-court rhythm by pressuring the ball handler and denying the first passing option. Trento’s offense often settled for contested jumpers late in the shot clock. When the Italian club did find success, it came through offensive rebounds and transition opportunities, but those were too infrequent to change the outcome.

Standout Players

Chemnitz’s perimeter leader paced the offense with 24 points, six rebounds, and five assists, consistently breaking down Trento’s defense in critical moments. Their interior anchor added 16 points and 10 rebounds, while a reserve guard provided a spark with 13 points off the bench.

For Trento, the leading scorer finished with 21 points and four assists, but he needed 18 shots to get there. A versatile forward contributed 17 points and seven rebounds, and the starting center chipped in 12 points and nine boards. Trento’s bench, however, managed only 11 points combined, a major difference in a game decided by eight.

EuroCup Standings and Season Impact

The victory gives Chemnitz a valuable road result in the EuroCup Basketball regular season, where away wins are often difficult to secure. It also improves their point differential and gives them momentum heading into the next round of group-phase games. Trento, meanwhile, drops a home fixture it likely circled as a must-win and will need to respond quickly, especially with a demanding schedule ahead.

For Trento, the focus will be on defensive communication and shot selection. The Italian club showed enough offensive firepower to stay close, but it could not match Chemnitz’s efficiency in the half court. If Trento can tighten its rotation and get more production from the bench, it remains a dangerous opponent in the EuroCup. For Chemnitz, the challenge now is consistency: this performance proves they can compete on the road, but repeating it will determine how high they can climb in the standings.
