BK Ventspils roll past Latvijas Universitate 108-92 in Estonia and Latvia Basketball League

BK Ventspils produced a commanding road performance on September 29, 2026, defeating Latvijas Universitate 108-92 in the Estonia and Latvia Basketball League. The visitors set the tone early, led for nearly the entire contest, and answered every home surge with a decisive run of their own. The final score of 108-92 reflects Ventspils’ superior efficiency at both ends: they shot better from the field, controlled the defensive glass, and turned Latvijas Universitate’s turnovers into quick transition points.

For Latvijas Universitate, the home loss was a frustrating night against a Ventspils side that looked sharper in half-court execution and more physical around the rim. The hosts stayed within striking distance into the third quarter, but a series of empty possessions and missed defensive assignments allowed BK Ventspils to pull away for a statement win in the Estonia and Latvia Basketball League standings race.

Match overview

BK Ventspils opened with a 30-point first quarter and never surrendered the lead after the opening minutes. The visitors led 57-48 at halftime, extended the margin to 82-71 after three quarters, and closed the game with a composed fourth period. Latvijas Universitate had moments of momentum, particularly when their guards attacked off the dribble and found open shooters, but Ventspils consistently had the answer at the other end.

The game followed a familiar pattern for the winning side: strong guard play, efficient three-point shooting, and enough interior presence to keep the home defense honest. Latvijas Universitate fought hard on the offensive boards and drew fouls, but their 17 turnovers proved costly against a Ventspils team that thrives in the open floor.

Quarter-by-quarter breakdown

Ventspils’ 30-point first quarter gave them an eight-point cushion, and they maintained that edge through halftime. The third quarter was where the game truly tilted: BK Ventspils won the period 25-23 and then put together their most complete stretch of the fourth, sealing the 108-92 result with timely shooting and free throws.

Key moments

• First-quarter surge: BK Ventspils used an early 10-2 run to establish control, forcing Latvijas Universitate into contested jump shots.
• Second-quarter response: Latvijas Universitate cut the deficit to five points behind aggressive drives and second-chance points, but Ventspils closed the half with a steady 7-2 mini-run.
• Third-quarter separation: A 9-0 Ventspils run midway through the third turned a single-digit lead into a comfortable margin.
• Fourth-quarter finish: BK Ventspils knocked down free throws and avoided turnovers in the final five minutes, never allowing the home side to mount a late comeback.

Tactical story

BK Ventspils relied on high pick-and-roll actions to create mismatches, with their guards consistently turning the corner and either finishing at the rim or kicking out to open shooters. The visitors finished with 24 assists, a clear sign of their ball movement and unselfish play. When Latvijas Universitate collapsed into the paint, Ventspils made them pay from beyond the arc, hitting 12 three-pointers in the win.

Latvijas Universitate tried to counter with a more physical approach inside, and they did earn 23 free-throw attempts. However, their half-court offense became predictable in key stretches, and Ventspils’ defensive rotations forced difficult late-clock shots. The rebounding battle also favored the visitors, who used defensive rebounds to launch quick breaks before the home defense could set.
