Anwil Wloclawek 86-87 Voluntari: One-point heartbreak for hosts in ENBL thriller

Voluntari edged Anwil Wloclawek 87-86 in a tense European North Basketball League matchup on 22 October 2026, surviving a dramatic final possession to claim a one-point road win. The game swung repeatedly through four quarters, with neither side able to build a lasting double-digit lead. In the end, a late free throw and a missed Anwil attempt proved the difference.

Match overview

Anwil Wloclawek started brightly in front of their home crowd, using ball movement and aggressive drives to take an early edge. Voluntari responded with a balanced attack and improved shot selection in the second quarter, turning a small deficit into a narrow halftime lead. The third quarter became a back-and-forth battle, and the final ten minutes delivered the kind of late drama that defines close European contests.

The final scoreline of 87-86 underlined how little separated the teams. Both sides shot the ball well for long stretches, and both had stretches of defensive vulnerability. The decisive factor was Voluntari’s ability to convert in the final minute, combined with Anwil’s inability to find a clean game-winning look before the buzzer.

Quarter-by-quarter scoring

• First quarter: Anwil Wloclawek 24-22 Voluntari
• Second quarter: Anwil Wloclawek 20-24 Voluntari
• Third quarter: Anwil Wloclawek 19-20 Voluntari
• Fourth quarter: Anwil Wloclawek 23-21 Voluntari

Key moments

The fourth quarter was packed with momentum swings. Anwil Wloclawek erased a small deficit midway through the period with a quick 6-0 run, bringing the home crowd to its feet. Voluntari answered immediately with a three-pointer from the wing and a tough finish in traffic, restoring their advantage.

In the final minute, Voluntari moved ahead by one at the free-throw line. Anwil had a chance to win it, but their last shot attempt rimmed out as the buzzer sounded. The visitors celebrated a hard-earned road victory while the hosts were left to rue a handful of missed opportunities at the charity stripe and a few costly turnovers late in the game.

Tactical story

Anwil Wloclawek’s offense was at its best when they played through the paint and kicked out to shooters. Their guards created penetration consistently, but Voluntari adjusted defensively in the second half, shrinking the driving lanes and forcing Anwil into more contested jumpers. The hosts still managed 86 points, but the rhythm that carried them early in the game became harder to sustain.

Voluntari’s offensive approach was patient and varied. They used ball screens to create mismatches, attacked closeouts and made timely shots from beyond the arc. Their ability to score in the final two minutes, when every possession carried extra weight, was the difference in a game that could easily have gone the other way.

Standout performers

Anwil received strong production from their backcourt, with several players hitting double figures and keeping the offense afloat during Voluntari’s runs. Their interior players also competed on the glass, giving the hosts extra possessions. However, missed free throws and a few rushed possessions in crunch time proved costly.

Voluntari’s balanced scoring was a key feature of the win. Multiple players contributed in the closing stretch, making it difficult for Anwil to key in on one offensive threat. Their composure at the free-throw line in the final minute ultimately sealed the result.

Standings and what comes next

The one-point win is a significant early result for Voluntari in the European North Basketball League standings, especially on the road against a strong Anwil side. For Anwil Wloclawek, the loss is a narrow one that will sting, but the performance showed enough offensive quality to suggest they will remain competitive in the group.

Anwil will focus on late-game execution and free-throw shooting before their next outing. Voluntari, meanwhile, will take confidence from winning a tight contest away from home as they look to build momentum in the ENBL campaign.
