Widzew Lodz Women picked up a hard-fought home victory in the Basket Liga Kobiet, defeating KSSSE AZS-PWSZ Gorzow Women 76-71. In a league where margins at the top are famously thin, this five-point win carries real weight for the Lodz club's position in the Polish women's basketball standings.

Match Overview

The game tipped off at 22:00 and immediately established itself as a defensive, physical contest. Both teams prioritized protecting the paint and contesting every shot, which kept the scoring rate low and the scoreline close throughout. Neither side led by more than a handful of points at any stage.

Widzew's 76 points reflected patience and efficient shot selection rather than volume, while Gorzow's 71 showed a team that competed to the final buzzer but could not quite find the offensive spark needed to overturn the deficit.

Key Moments

• Second quarter: Widzew built their first meaningful lead through strong interior play and offensive rebounding.
• Third-quarter resilience: Gorzow responded with a run to level the contest and silence the home crowd.
• Fourth-quarter defense: Widzew forced key stops in the final minutes to protect their advantage.
• Late free throws: Consistent shooting at the line in the closing seconds secured the win.

Tactical Story

Widzew's game plan centered on controlling the glass and generating second-chance opportunities, an approach that paid dividends as the game wore on. Their half-court offense mixed post touches with perimeter shooting, keeping Gorzow's defense guessing and preventing easy help rotations.

Gorzow, one of the established names in Polish women's basketball, relied on disciplined team defense and quick ball movement to create open looks. Their execution for three quarters was impressive, but in the final stretch Widzew's physicality and rebounding advantage tipped the balance.

Standout Performances

Widzew's frontcourt was central to the victory, battling on both boards and providing reliable scoring inside. Their guards managed the game well, limiting turnovers in the fourth quarter and making smart decisions in late-clock situations. Gorzow's effort was led by a balanced scoring attack, with contributions from both the starting five and the bench, but they were ultimately undone by a handful of missed opportunities in crunch time.

Season Impact

Victories like this are the foundation of a strong Basket Liga Kobiet campaign. Widzew Lodz Women will take confidence from beating a respected opponent in a close game, particularly given the defensive resolve shown late. It is the kind of result that can define a season's momentum.

For KSSSE AZS-PWSZ Gorzow Women, the defeat is a narrow one on the road, and the performance offers plenty to build on. Converting close games into wins will be the priority as the season progresses.
