Polonia Warszawa Women claimed a hard-fought 81-78 road win over Artego Bydgoszcz Women in the Basket Liga Kobiet, using a composed fourth-quarter finish to leave Bydgoszcz with two valuable points. The game was close from start to finish, but Polonia made the bigger plays in the final minutes.

Match overview

Artego Bydgoszcz started strongly in front of their home fans, using interior scoring and offensive rebounding to build an early edge. Polonia Warszawa weathered that opening push and gradually found rhythm from the perimeter. By halftime, the visitors had trimmed the deficit and turned the contest into a possession-by-possession battle. Neither team could create meaningful separation in the third quarter, and the game entered the final period with the outcome still very much in doubt.

Key moments

The turning point arrived with just under four minutes remaining. Trailing by one, Polonia Warszawa produced a quick 6-0 run fueled by a transition layup and a contested three-pointer. Artego Bydgoszcz answered with a post basket, but Polonia’s defense forced two empty possessions in the next minute. Clutch free throws in the final 20 seconds stretched the lead to three, and Artego’s last-second attempt from beyond the arc fell short.

• Polonia’s 6-0 run in the fourth quarter created the decisive cushion.
• Artego Bydgoszcz was limited to one field goal in the final two minutes.
• Polonia shot efficiently from the free-throw line down the stretch.

Tactical story

Polonia Warszawa’s defensive adjustments after halftime made a major difference. The visitors began switching more aggressively on screens and forced Artego into tougher mid-range attempts. On offense, Polonia spread the floor and attacked gaps, creating open looks for shooters and second-chance opportunities for their bigs. Artego Bydgoszcz remained dangerous inside, but the home side’s half-court execution slowed in the closing minutes under pressure.

Standout performers

Polonia’s guards controlled the pace and delivered several key baskets in the fourth quarter. Their ability to break pressure and find open teammates kept Artego’s defense honest. Artego Bydgoszcz got strong production from its frontcourt, which battled on the boards and scored consistently around the rim, but the team lacked the same late-game shot-making that Polonia found.

What it means

The road win gives Polonia Warszawa an important confidence boost in the Basket Liga Kobiet standings and underlines their ability to close out tight games. Artego Bydgoszcz will take encouragement from long stretches of the performance, but the loss highlights the fine margins in a competitive league. With both teams likely to be in the mix for playoff positioning, this result could be remembered when the standings are finalized.
