Royals TV Saarlouis Women edged TH Wohnbau Angels (W) 75-73 in a thrilling Damen Basketball Bundesliga contest that went down to the final possession. A late basket and a decisive defensive stand allowed the hosts to secure a narrow home win in a game that featured momentum swings, sharp shooting and plenty of pressure in the closing minutes.

Match overview

The game was tight from the opening tip. Saarlouis and the Angels traded leads throughout the first half, with neither team able to build a comfortable advantage. The hosts found success attacking the basket and drawing fouls, while the Angels countered with patient half-court execution and timely three-point shooting. The halftime margin was minimal, setting up a tense second half.

The fourth quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle. The Angels briefly took the lead late, but Saarlouis responded with a composed offensive possession to regain the advantage. With the clock winding down, the hosts came up with a crucial stop and made enough free throws to hold on.

Key moments

The defining moment came in the final seconds. Trailing by one, Saarlouis worked the ball into the paint and converted a tough finish to take a one-point lead. The Angels had a chance to answer, but a contested shot fell short and Saarlouis secured the rebound before adding a free throw. A last-gasp heave from the Angels was off the mark, sealing the two-point win.

Earlier, a run late in the third quarter had given Saarlouis a small cushion, but the Angels answered with back-to-back triples to keep the game within reach. The hosts’ ability to stay calm under pressure proved decisive.

Tactical story

Saarlouis’ offense was at its best when it played inside-out, using post touches to create open perimeter looks. The hosts also did a good job of getting to the free-throw line, especially in the fourth quarter. Defensively, they forced the Angels into several difficult shots in the final two minutes.

The Angels were effective when they moved the ball quickly and found open shooters, but they turned the ball over at costly moments and were beaten on the offensive glass late. Their late-game execution was nearly enough, but Saarlouis made the bigger plays when it mattered most.

Standout performances

Saarlouis’ guards handled the late-game pressure well, while the frontcourt delivered key rebounds and second-chance points. The Angels received strong contributions from their perimeter players, who kept the visitors in the game until the final possession.

Season impact

The win gives Royals TV Saarlouis Women an important confidence boost in the DBBL standings and a valuable result in a tightly contested matchup. For TH Wohnbau Angels, the loss is a narrow one that could have gone either way. Both teams showed they can compete in high-pressure games, and the rematch later in the season already looks like one to watch.
