Match overview

Keltern led 30-28 at halftime after a tightly contested opening two quarters. • First quarter: Keltern 16-12
• Second quarter: Marburg 16-14
• Third quarter: Keltern 17-13
• Fourth quarter: Marburg 16-15
• Final: Keltern Women 62-57 Pharmaserv Marburg Women

Key moments

The decisive stretch came midway through the third quarter. With Keltern clinging to a one-point lead, the hosts pieced together a 9-2 run built on offensive rebounds and second-chance points. That burst turned a tense 34-33 advantage into a 43-35 cushion and forced Marburg to chase the game. Marburg responded with a patient half-court attack and cut the deficit to 47-41 entering the final period, but Keltern never surrendered the lead.

In the last two minutes, Keltern forced two turnovers and converted four free throws to keep Marburg at arm’s length. A late three-pointer made the score look closer, but the hosts had already done enough on the defensive end to close out the win.

Tactical story

Keltern’s half-court defense was the foundation of the result. The hosts protected the paint, limited clean looks at the rim, and forced Marburg into contested jump shots late in the shot clock. On offense, Keltern were patient against Marburg’s switching looks, often reversing the ball before attacking the baseline. Their work on the offensive glass was especially important in a game where scoring runs were scarce.

Marburg stayed within reach thanks to their guard play and ability to draw fouls in transition. However, they struggled to string together stops in the third quarter, and Keltern’s rebounding advantage translated into the extra possessions that decided the game.

Standout performers

Keltern’s frontcourt set the tone with physical rebounding and interior defense, while their backcourt managed the pace well in the fourth quarter. Marburg’s primary ball-handler kept the visitors in contention with timely shot creation, but the team’s shooting cooled in the final five minutes. The game was a collective win for Keltern rather than a one-player showcase, with contributions arriving from the starting five and the bench alike.

Standings impact

The home win strengthens Keltern’s position in the upper half of the Damen Basketball Bundesliga table and adds another valuable result to their early-season résumé. For Marburg, the narrow road loss is a reminder that their defensive intensity travels well, even if the offensive execution deserted them late. Keltern will hope this defensive performance becomes a template for the coming weeks.
