Herner TC Women claimed a 71-60 home victory over TK Hannover Women in Damen Basketball Bundesliga action on 18 October 2026, delivering a disciplined defensive performance that laid the foundation for the win. The hosts controlled the game for long stretches, never allowing Hannover to find a consistent offensive rhythm, and closed out the contest with steady execution in the final quarter.

Match overview

Herner TC started with intensity at the defensive end, contesting shots and forcing Hannover into difficult decisions. The hosts built an early lead through balanced scoring and aggressive rebounding, while TK Hannover Women stayed within reach thanks to a few timely baskets in the paint. Herner led 18-14 after the first quarter and gradually extended the advantage before halftime.

Leading 35-29 at the break, Herner TC maintained their defensive focus in the third quarter. They limited Hannover's second-chance opportunities and forced several empty possessions. Although TK Hannover Women found some success with drives to the basket, the hosts always seemed to have an answer, entering the final period with a 54-45 advantage.

How Herner TC built the win

Herner's offense was patient and balanced. They moved the ball well against Hannover's defense, creating open looks both inside and on the perimeter. The hosts were particularly effective when they attacked the offensive glass, turning missed shots into extra possessions and keeping pressure on the Hannover defense.

Defensively, Herner TC was outstanding. They communicated well on switches, closed out aggressively on shooters, and protected the paint. Hannover was held to just 60 points, a reflection of Herner's ability to contest shots without giving up easy fouls. The hosts also won the rebounding battle, which proved crucial in a game where scoring runs were hard to come by.

TK Hannover Women's fight

TK Hannover Women showed resilience and never allowed the game to get away from them completely. Their guards attacked the basket with purpose, and their interior players battled on the boards. A brief third-quarter run cut the deficit to seven points, but Hannover could not build on that momentum.

Turnovers and missed free throws hurt the visitors at key moments. When they needed a big shot to swing the game, Herner's defense forced them into contested attempts. Hannover's bench provided energy, but the team as a whole struggled to find consistent scoring against a well-organized Herner defense.

Standout performers and tactical notes

Herner TC's balanced scoring made them difficult to defend. Multiple players contributed on offense, and their defensive rotations were sharp throughout. The hosts' ability to control the tempo was also important; they rarely allowed Hannover to get out in transition and made the visitors execute in the half court.

The tactical story was Herner's defensive discipline. They limited clean looks from beyond the arc, forced Hannover into mid-range shots, and controlled the defensive glass. On offense, Herner's patience and ball movement wore down Hannover's defense, especially in the second half.

What the result means

The win gives Herner TC Women a valuable home result in the Damen Basketball Bundesliga standings and reinforces their defensive identity. For TK Hannover Women, the defeat highlights the need for more consistent offense and better execution in close games. Both teams will now prepare for their next fixtures, with Herner looking to maintain their defensive intensity and Hannover aiming to rediscover their scoring rhythm.
