Anagennisi Germasogeias Women 72–79 AEL Women — AEL Women left Germasogeias with a hard-earned 79-72 road victory in the Cyprus Women's Division A on Saturday, using a strong finish to see off a determined Anagennisi side.

The hosts made AEL work for every point, keeping the game within reach deep into the fourth quarter, but the visitors' superior execution in the closing minutes — combined with timely three-point shooting — secured a seven-point win that keeps them firmly in the title conversation.

Match overview

Anagennisi opened the game with energy, pressuring the ball and pushing the tempo in an attempt to unsettle their more established opponents. It worked early, with the hosts trading baskets through the opening period. AEL gradually settled, however, using their half-court structure and physical advantage on the boards to build a narrow lead by the half.

The third quarter was closely contested, with Anagennisi trimming the deficit behind aggressive drives, before AEL reasserted control in the fourth with a run of efficient possessions and several defensive stops at crucial moments.

Quarter-by-quarter scoring

• First quarter: Anagennisi 18–21 AEL
• Second quarter: Anagennisi 16–19 AEL
• Third quarter: Anagennisi 20–18 AEL
• Fourth quarter: Anagennisi 18–21 AEL
• Final score: Anagennisi Germasogeias Women 72–79 AEL Women

How AEL won it

• Fourth-quarter execution: AEL scored 21 points in the final period, their highest of the game, while holding Anagennisi to 18.
• Rebounding edge: The visitors controlled the defensive glass, limiting second-chance opportunities for the hosts.
• Free-throw discipline: AEL converted at the line down the stretch, denying Anagennisi the chance to close the gap without fouling.

Standout performers

AEL's leading scorer was instrumental in the win, delivering points in bunches during the decisive fourth-quarter run while also creating open looks for teammates. Their interior presence anchored the defense, altering shots and cleaning up the defensive boards when Anagennisi tried to attack the rim.

Anagennisi's bright spot was their backcourt, which competed aggressively for all four quarters. Their guards broke down the defense with penetration and connected from mid-range, while the team's energy on the offensive glass kept them in contact even when AEL threatened to pull away.

Standings and season outlook

For AEL Women, this is the type of away result that shapes a title challenge in the Cyprus Women's Division A. Winning on the road against a stubborn opponent, without ever fully dominating, demonstrates the kind of maturity that matters in a crowded title race. The win adds valuable momentum ahead of their next fixtures.

Anagennisi Germasogeias Women leave the game with plenty of encouragement despite the defeat. They matched AEL for long stretches and showed they can compete with the division's stronger sides. Tightening their late-game decision-making — particularly shot selection in the final three minutes — could easily turn results like this one in their favour later in the season.

What's next

Both clubs now turn their attention to the next round of league fixtures, where consistency will be the theme. AEL will look to build on a solid road win, while Anagennisi will aim to convert a competitive performance into points in the standings.
