The Copa del Rey de Baloncesto delivered another tight, drama-filled night on Sunday, as CB Morón edged UDEA Algeciras 83-80 in a game that stayed undecided until the final possession. Played in front of a loud, close-to-capacity crowd, the contest was everything a cup tie should be: physical, fast, and decided by a handful of plays in the closing two minutes.

Match overview

From the opening tip, both teams showed why this competition matters so much to clubs at this level. UDEA Algeciras, playing on their home floor, came out aggressively, pushing the pace and attacking the rim early. CB Morón responded with patience, working the ball inside-out and forcing the hosts into a series of contested jump shots.

The first quarter set the tone for the evening: neither side managed to open a lead bigger than five points, and the scoring came in bursts rather than long runs. Algeciras leaned on their transition game, turning defensive rebounds into quick points, while Morón were content to slow things down and grind out half-court possessions.

By halftime the visitors held a narrow advantage, and the pattern continued through the third quarter. Every time Algeciras looked ready to pull away, Morón answered with a big shot or a stop on defense. The final ten minutes turned into a genuine playoff-style battle, with both benches on their feet and the crowd reacting to every whistle.

Key moments

• End of the third quarter: A late three-pointer gave CB Morón momentum heading into the final period, swinging a two-point deficit into a one-point lead.
• Mid-fourth quarter run: Algeciras strung together a 7-0 burst to reclaim the lead, forcing Morón into a timeout.
• The final two minutes: Morón converted key free throws down the stretch and came up with a crucial defensive rebound that effectively sealed the result.
• Last possession: UDEA Algeciras had a look to tie the game, but the contested three-point attempt rimmed out as the buzzer sounded.

How CB Morón won it

The decisive factor was Morón's efficiency in the final quarter. After struggling from the perimeter for much of the game, they attacked the paint with purpose in the closing minutes, drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line. That discipline at the stripe proved to be the difference in a three-point game.

Defensively, Morón's switching scheme disrupted Algeciras' pick-and-roll rhythm. The hosts were forced into more isolation play than they would have liked, and their shooting percentage dropped noticeably in the fourth quarter as a result. On the boards, the visitors did just enough to limit second-chance opportunities in the biggest moments.

Standout players

For CB Morón, the backcourt controlled the tempo beautifully, dictating when to push and when to set up in the half court, while the interior players battled hard on the glass against a physical Algeciras front line. The bench also provided a timely spark, with reserves contributing important minutes on both ends.

UDEA Algeciras can take real encouragement from the performance. Their guards were aggressive and creative, and their energy on the defensive end created several easy baskets in transition. The hosts simply ran out of answers in the final possessions of a game that could easily have gone the other way.

Cup and season impact

The 83-80 win keeps CB Morón alive in the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto and adds another memorable chapter to what is already a competitive campaign. In knockout basketball, road wins like this one carry extra weight: they build belief, and they send a message that this squad can handle pressure situations.

For UDEA Algeciras, the defeat is a tough one to swallow, but the margin — just three points against quality opposition — underlines how close the team is to turning narrow losses into wins. The focus now shifts back to league form, where consistency in late-game execution will be the priority.
