Refitel Nadunet Basquet Lliria pulled off a dramatic 69–67 victory over Gipuzkoa Basket in the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto on October 22, 2026, sealing the win with a late basket in front of their home supporters.

A close contest throughout

Gipuzkoa Basket entered the game as the more experienced side, but Lliria matched them blow for blow in a low-scoring, physical encounter. The lead changed hands multiple times in the first half, with neither team able to string together more than two consecutive baskets. The game remained balanced deep into the fourth quarter, setting up a thrilling finish.

Key moments

Gipuzkoa appeared to take control when they opened a seven-point lead with six minutes remaining, capitalizing on a series of Lliria turnovers. The home side responded with a 10–2 run, capped by a corner three from Sergio Ferrer. With the score tied at 67–67, Ferrer struck again, driving into the lane and hitting a floating jumper with four seconds left. Gipuzkoa’s final heave from half court fell short.

Tactical story

Lliria’s full-court pressure disrupted Gipuzkoa’s rhythm, forcing 17 turnovers and limiting the visitors’ transition game. Gipuzkoa shot just 8-of-27 from three-point range, while Lliria made the most of their free-throw opportunities down the stretch. The rebound count was nearly even, but Lliria’s ability to score off turnovers proved decisive.

Standout players

Ferrer finished with 20 points for Refitel Nadunet Basquet Lliria, including the game-winning shot. Carlos Bellver added 13 points and seven rebounds. For Gipuzkoa Basket, Mikel Arrieta led the way with 18 points, while Ander Zubizarreta scored 12.

What the result means

The win is a significant confidence booster for Lliria and sends them into the next round of the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto. Gipuzkoa Basket will be disappointed to exit after such a tight contest, but their performance showed plenty of quality ahead of the league campaign.
