Grupo Capitol Valladolid produced one of the more controlled performances of the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto slate, defeating Baloncesto Fuenlabrada 90-82 on October 21, 2026. The home side combined patient half-court execution with a decisive third-quarter burst, turning a tight cup tie into a result that strengthens their position in the competition.

The opening exchanges suggested a close, tactical contest. Valladolid edged the first quarter 24-20, using early paint touches and second-chance points to settle into rhythm. Fuenlabrada responded well in the second period, tightening their perimeter defense and forcing Valladolid into late-clock attempts. A 19-21 quarter in Fuenlabrada’s favor sent the teams into halftime with Valladolid ahead 43-41, and the game still very much in the balance.

Third-Quarter Surge Decides the Tie

The decisive stretch arrived after the break. Valladolid opened the third quarter with sharper ball movement and a renewed commitment to attacking the rim. A 26-18 quarter created the first meaningful separation of the night, pushing the hosts into a 69-59 lead heading into the final ten minutes. Fuenlabrada attempted to respond with pressure defense and quick transition looks, but Valladolid’s composure at the free-throw line and control of the defensive glass kept the visitors at arm’s length.

Fuenlabrada won the fourth quarter 21-23, but the margin never fell back into single-digit danger for long. Valladolid’s ability to answer runs with disciplined possessions proved the difference, especially in the final five minutes when the game threatened to become a free-flowing shootout.

Standout Performers and Tactical Story

Valladolid’s offense was balanced rather than reliant on one scorer, with Mateo Rivas leading the way on 22 points and eight rebounds. Sergio Lamas added 17 points and controlled the tempo from the backcourt, while the frontcourt rotation gave Valladolid a clear edge on the offensive boards. For Fuenlabrada, Adrian Pardo kept the visitors competitive with 20 points, but support scoring arrived in bursts rather than sustained waves.

The tactical story was simple: Valladolid won the battle of the paint and made Fuenlabrada work harder for every basket. The hosts’ defensive rotations were sharper in the third quarter, and their rebounding limited Fuenlabrada’s transition chances. In a cup format where momentum can swing quickly, that control proved decisive.

What the Result Means

For Grupo Capitol Valladolid, the 90-82 win is a statement of intent in the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto. It gives them a strong early result and a useful confidence boost ahead of tougher matchups. For Baloncesto Fuenlabrada, the defeat highlights the need for more consistency on the defensive end, particularly when opposing guards are able to penetrate and kick out to open shooters.

The result will also be remembered for its efficiency: Valladolid reached 90 points without needing an extraordinary shooting night, instead building the total through free throws, offensive rebounds and timely three-pointers. In a competition decided by fine margins, that kind of balanced scoring profile is exactly what coaches want to see.
