CD Leonesa Basket edged Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto 69–67 in a tense Copa del Rey de Baloncesto clash on October 22, 2026, advancing after a game that was not settled until the final possession.

A defensive battle from the opening tip

Neither side managed to build a comfortable lead at any stage, with both defenses dictating the rhythm of the contest. Leonesa used the energy of their home crowd to stay in front for much of the first half, but Oviedo repeatedly answered with timely baskets in transition. The score stayed within a single-digit margin throughout, setting up a nervy finish in which every possession felt decisive.

Key moments

Oviedo held a narrow advantage late in the third quarter before Leonesa responded with an 8–0 run to reclaim control. The visitors refused to fade, tying the game at 67–67 with under a minute remaining. Leonesa’s go-to guard Diego Álvarez then delivered the decisive play, hitting a contested jumper with 12 seconds left. Oviedo had one final look from beyond the arc, but the shot rimmed out, sealing a two-point win for the hosts.

Tactical story

Leonesa’s compact zone defense frustrated Oviedo for long stretches, forcing the visitors into contested three-point attempts. Oviedo finished just 6-of-24 from deep and left points at the free-throw line, going 11-of-18. Leonesa won the rebounding battle by a slim margin, with Marcos Vidal controlling the glass in the closing minutes. Oviedo’s full-court pressure created a handful of turnovers, but Leonesa’s composure in the half court ultimately made the difference.

Standout players

Álvarez led Leonesa with 18 points, including the game-winning basket, while Vidal added 14 points and nine rebounds. For Oviedo, Javier López top-scored with 16 points, and Pablo Méndez contributed 12 points and six assists in a losing effort.

The win sends CD Leonesa Basket into the next round of the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto and gives the squad a valuable confidence boost. For Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto, the narrow defeat is a frustrating one, but the performance showed enough resilience to suggest the team can bounce back quickly in league play.
