CB Moron 76-90 Melilla Baloncesto: Melilla's Road Craft Books Copa del Rey Progress

Melilla Baloncesto secured a composed 90-76 victory over CB Moron in Copa del Rey de Baloncesto action, using a balanced offensive attack and superior late-game execution to close out a road win. The 14-point margin was built patiently rather than in a single burst, and it reflects a Melilla side comfortable controlling the rhythm of a knockout-style contest.

Match Overview

CB Moron opened brightly in front of their home support, matching Melilla basket for basket through the opening exchanges. The hosts' energy and willingness to attack the rim kept the game tight, but Melilla's ability to find open shooters and punish defensive rotations gradually tilted the balance. By the closing period, the visitors had established firm control.

Key Moments

• Early exchanges: Moron's aggressive drives kept the crowd engaged, but Melilla answered almost every run with a three-pointer or a trip to the free-throw line.
• Mid-game swing: A sustained Melilla run either side of the interval opened up the first double-digit lead of the night, forcing Moron into catch-up mode.
• Fourth-quarter management: With Moron pushing to close the gap, Melilla slowed the tempo, protected the ball and converted their free throws to keep the margin safe.

Tactical Story

Melilla's game plan was built on spacing. Their guards probed the defence, drawing help defenders before kicking out to shooters on the perimeter. When Moron switched to a zone look, Melilla responded with quick ball reversals and mid-range jumpers that kept the scoreboard ticking. Defensively, they prioritised protecting the paint, conceding some contested outside shots in exchange for eliminating easy layups.

CB Moron's approach was more direct. They attacked the basket hard and generated points in the paint, but the physical toll of driving into a packed defence affected their efficiency as the game wore on. Their three-point shooting was streaky, and missed long-range attempts often led to long rebounds that Melilla turned into transition opportunities.

Standout Performers

Melilla's scoring was distributed evenly, which made them difficult to defend. Their primary ball handlers controlled tempo effectively, while their forwards contributed on the boards and finished well in traffic. The bench provided a steady contribution, ensuring no drop-off in intensity during rotations.

Moron had their moments, particularly in the first half, with individual efforts that kept the scoreline respectable. Their fight remained evident until the final whistle, even as the deficit stretched beyond reach.

Season Impact

Advancing in the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto carries real significance for Melilla Baloncesto. The competition offers a platform to test themselves against varied opposition and build momentum that can translate into league form. Winning on the road, in front of a hostile crowd, is exactly the kind of experience that hardens a roster for the business end of the season.

For CB Moron, the defeat is a setback but not a defining one. Their home form will remain central to their ambitions, and the lessons from this game — better shot selection in the final minutes, stronger defensive rebounding — are correctable issues that the coaching staff can address immediately.

What's Next

Melilla move forward in the cup with their confidence intact, while Moron return to their domestic schedule looking to convert promising passages of play into complete performances. Both clubs will take something from a contest that was decided by execution rather than effort.
