CB Getafe produced one of the more entertaining offensive displays of the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto's early rounds, defeating Tres Cantos 102-93 on 19 September 2026 in a Madrid derby that was decided by a decisive third-quarter burst. The win sends Getafe through in a knockout competition where every possession carries season-defining weight.

Match Overview

The Copa del Rey format leaves little room for error, and both sides played like they understood that. Tres Cantos started brightly, knocking down outside shots and pushing the tempo whenever Getafe's defence was slow to retreat. The first quarter ended with the visitors narrowly ahead, and the second was a genuine back-and-forth affair, with the lead changing hands seven times before the break.

Getafe's response after half-time was the story of the night. They opened the third quarter with a sustained run, forced Tres Cantos into contested shots, and turned a two-point deficit into a double-digit cushion that they protected through the final period.

Key Moments

• Hot start from Tres Cantos: A trio of early three-pointers gave the visitors confidence and a brief lead.
• Second-quarter trading: Neither team could build separation, with both benches contributing heavily in a high-scoring half.
• Third-quarter breakaway: Getafe's defensive pressure produced a string of turnovers that were converted into easy points at the other end.
• Closing management: Getafe slowed the pace late, worked the shot clock, and forced Tres Cantos to chase the game from the free-throw line.

Tactical Story

Getafe's advantage came inside. Their frontcourt controlled the boards at both ends, generating second-chance points and limiting Tres Cantos to one shot on most possessions. That rebounding dominance was worth far more than the raw numbers suggest, because it allowed Getafe's guards to play with freedom on the offensive end.

Tres Cantos, by contrast, lived and died by the jumper. When their shooters were hot in the first half, they looked capable of an upset. Once Getafe extended their defence and closed out harder on the perimeter, the visitors' offence became predictable, and the scoring gaps between quarters told the story.

Standout Performers

Getafe's leading scorer finished with a game-high total, mixing drives with mid-range pull-ups, while their primary playmaker dictated the tempo throughout the second half. Tres Cantos deserved credit for their perimeter shooting and their refusal to fold when the deficit reached double figures — their late push cut the margin to single digits before Getafe's free-throw shooting closed the door.

What the Result Means

Advancing in the Copa del Rey is never simply about survival; it is about building momentum in a competition where a single bad night ends the run. Getafe's 102-point performance suggests an offence that can carry them deeper into the bracket, while Tres Cantos exit knowing their shooting gave a stronger opponent genuine problems for three quarters. For both clubs, the fixture added useful competitive minutes ahead of the rest of their league schedule.
