Nottingham Hoods Dominate Bristol Academy Flyers 2 in 98-71 Commonwealth Basketball Games Rout

Nottingham Hoods delivered a statement performance in the Commonwealth Basketball Games on 11 October 2026, dismantling Bristol Academy Flyers 2 by a decisive 98-71 scoreline. The 27-point victory was the Hoods' most emphatic offensive display of the campaign, combining blistering shooting with suffocating defense over four quarters.

Match Overview

From the opening tip, Nottingham Hoods played with purpose and intensity, overwhelming their visitors with pace and precision. The home side moved the ball crisply, attacked the rim relentlessly, and punished every Bristol defensive breakdown with efficient finishing. By the halfway mark, the contest had already taken on the appearance of a one-sided affair.

Bristol Academy Flyers 2, a development-focused outfit, showed admirable fight and never stopped competing, but they were simply outmatched on the night by a Hoods team firing on all cylinders. The final scoreline of 98-71 accurately reflected the gap in execution, physicality, and shot quality between the two sides.

Key Moments

• Fast start: Nottingham opened with a barrage of quick baskets, forcing Bristol into an early timeout as the lead ballooned.
• Second-quarter avalanche: The Hoods' bench extended the advantage, maintaining the defensive intensity and keeping the scoring rate high.
• Third-quarter lockdown: Any hopes of a Bristol comeback were extinguished as Nottingham held their opponents to a difficult stretch, converting stops into transition points.
• Garbage-time professionalism: Even with the result settled, the Hoods' rotations remained organized, closing out the game with the same structure they started with.

Tactical Story

Nottingham's game plan was built on defensive pressure and tempo. Their guards picked up Bristol's ball handlers high, disrupting entry passes and forcing rushed decisions. That defensive aggression translated directly into offense, with the Hoods repeatedly beating Bristol down the floor for easy transition buckets.

In the half court, Nottingham's spacing was excellent. Shooters stayed ready on the perimeter while their big men set physical screens and crashed the offensive glass. The result was a balanced scoring attack that made it impossible for Bristol to key in on any single threat.

Bristol's coaching staff will emphasize the positives — their team's energy off the bench and willingness to keep attacking — but the defensive lapses and turnovers that fueled Nottingham's fast breaks will be the primary teaching points in the days ahead.

Standout Performers

Nottingham's scoring was spread across the rotation, a hallmark of well-coached teams. Their guards controlled tempo and distribution, while the frontcourt won the battle on the boards and finished efficiently around the rim. Bristol's bright spots came from individual efforts, with several players showing the kind of promise that bodes well for their development within the academy setup.

Season Impact

A 98-point outing is the kind of performance that boosts both confidence and point differential in the Commonwealth Basketball Games standings. For Nottingham Hoods, this result underlines their credentials as a serious contender and sets a benchmark for the rest of their season. For Bristol Academy Flyers 2, the defeat is a learning experience — the kind of tough road trip that accelerates the growth of young players competing against hardened opposition.

The Hoods will look to build on this momentum in their next outing, while Bristol will aim to tighten their defensive rotations and reduce turnovers when they return to action.
