Mechelen Women 88-67 Rapid Bucuresti Women — Mechelen Women produced one of their most complete performances of the Club Friendship campaign, pulling away from Rapid Bucuresti Women in the second half to secure a commanding 88-67 victory. The home side combined efficient perimeter shooting with a dominant inside presence, turning a competitive first quarter into a one-sided contest by the final buzzer.

Match Overview

Played at the Mechelen home court, the game followed a familiar pattern for the Belgian side: patient half-court offense, aggressive help defense, and a bench unit that extended leads rather than surrendering them. Rapid Bucuresti stayed within touching distance early, but a 12-2 run late in the second quarter gave Mechelen a double-digit cushion they never relinquished.

The win strengthens Mechelen's position in the Club Friendship standings and hands Rapid Bucuresti a second consecutive road defeat in the competition. For the Romanian visitors, the result highlighted both their fighting spirit in transition and their recurring struggles against physical, switch-heavy defenses.

Key Moments

• First quarter: Both teams traded baskets early, with Rapid Bucuresti's guards finding rhythm from beyond the arc. Mechelen answered through high-low action, closing the period with a narrow 22-19 lead.
• Second quarter: The game turned on a Mechelen defensive surge. Three straight stops led to easy transition points, and a corner three before the halftime buzzer pushed the advantage to 46-33.
• Third quarter: Rapid Bucuresti opened with renewed urgency, cutting the deficit to nine. Mechelen responded with a methodical 9-0 run, capped by an and-one in the paint, to restore control at 67-49.
• Fourth quarter: With the result effectively settled, Mechelen's rotation players maintained the tempo, extending the lead to 21 before a late Bucuresti flurry made the final scoreline slightly more respectable.

Tactical Story

Mechelen's coaching staff clearly prioritized disrupting Rapid Bucuresti's pick-and-roll game. By switching screens and forcing the visitors' ball handlers toward the baseline, they limited clean looks at the rim and dared Bucuresti to beat them from mid-range. The strategy worked: the Romanian side shot well in spurts but never sustained offensive momentum.

On the other end, Mechelen exploited mismatches inside. Their post players sealed deep position early, drawing doubles that opened up cutters and spot-up shooters. The home team's ball movement was crisp, finishing with a high assist-to-turnover ratio that reflected their control of the game's pace.

Standout Players

Mechelen's backcourt set the tone on both ends, pressuring full court and pushing the tempo whenever possible. Their leading scorer paced the offense with a balanced mix of drives and pull-up jumpers, while the frontcourt controlled the glass and altered numerous shots at the rim.

For Rapid Bucuresti, the bright spots came from their wing scorers, who attacked closeouts aggressively and kept the visitors within striking distance during the first half. However, foul trouble and a thin bench left them vulnerable once Mechelen cranked up the defensive intensity.

Season Impact

The 21-point margin flatters Mechelen only slightly; they were the better team for the majority of the contest. The victory adds valuable points to their Club Friendship tally and reinforces their reputation as a tough home assignment. For Rapid Bucuresti, the focus now shifts to tightening their half-court defense and finding secondary scoring options before their next fixture.

Final score: Mechelen Women 88, Rapid Bucuresti Women 67.
