In a tightly contested women's basketball fixture on 19 September 2026, Manresa CBF (W) edged Segle XXI Women by a final score of 66-64. The game came down to the closing possessions, and it was the home side that held its nerve, protecting a narrow lead in the final minute to secure a hard-earned two-point win.

Match Overview

Club Friendship competition basketball is known for producing competitive, well-coached games, and this encounter lived up to that reputation. Neither team managed to build a double-digit advantage at any stage, and the lead changed hands repeatedly across all four quarters. Manresa's ability to execute in late-game situations proved the difference, while Segle XXI's youthful energy kept the contest alive until the very last shot.

How the Game Unfolded

• First quarter – Manresa 18, Segle XXI 15: The hosts started brightly, using aggressive drives and quick ball reversals to build a small early cushion.
• Second quarter – Segle XXI 18, Manresa 14: Segle XXI answered with their best stretch of the game, taking a one-point lead into halftime at 33-32.
• Third quarter – Manresa 17, Segle XXI 14: Manresa regained control with a disciplined defensive quarter, limiting second-chance points and forcing contested shots.
• Fourth quarter – Manresa 17, Segle XXI 17: A nervy, possession-by-possession finish in which Manresa's free-throw shooting and late rebounding sealed the result.

Tactical Story

Manresa's approach centred on controlling tempo. They slowed the game in the half court, worked for high-percentage looks close to the basket, and relied on their defensive structure to prevent Segle XXI from getting out in transition. That discipline was especially visible in the third quarter, when they held their opponents to just 14 points — the lowest quarter total of the night for either side.

Segle XXI, a program built around developing young Catalan talent, played with pace and fearlessness. Their guards pushed the ball at every opportunity, and their perimeter shooting kept them level through the middle of the game. What cost them was execution in the final two minutes: a couple of rushed possessions and missed free throws left the door slightly ajar, and Manresa walked through it.

Standout Performances

The home side's interior play was the foundation of the win, with strong work on both the offensive and defensive glass creating extra possessions and denying Segle XXI easy putbacks. Their primary ball handler managed the closing minutes calmly, drawing fouls and converting at the line when the game was on the line.

For Segle XXI, the performance reinforced the depth of talent in their squad. Their leading scorers kept the offense moving throughout, and the team's defensive intensity forced Manresa into a number of late-clock situations. In a development context, pushing an experienced senior side to the final buzzer on the road is a meaningful result in itself.

Season Impact

A two-point victory is worth the same as a twenty-point one in the standings, but the manner of this win matters for Manresa CBF (W). Closing out tight games builds the kind of composure that pays dividends later in the campaign, and this result should give them confidence heading into their next fixtures.

Segle XXI Women leave with no points but plenty of credit. Their narrow defeat underlines how competitive the Club Friendship competition is, and their ability to trade blows with a settled Manresa side suggests they will trouble opponents throughout the season.
