KSSSE AZS-PWSZ Gorzow Women produced a controlled 70-55 victory over mitteldeutscher bc (W) in the Club Friendship tournament, using a strong start and a dominant third quarter to pull clear of their German opponents. The Polish side led from the opening minutes and never surrendered the advantage, closing out a fifteen-point win built on defensive pressure and efficient inside scoring.

Match Overview

The fixture, played in the early hours of 18 September 2026, pitted Gorzow's well-drilled women's team against an MBC side that arrived looking to test itself against international opposition. From the tip, the hosts were the sharper unit: quicker to loose balls, more aggressive in the passing lanes, and far more clinical around the basket.

MBC stayed within striking distance for much of the first half thanks to some timely perimeter shooting, but they were undone by a stretch either side of halftime in which Gorzow's defence held them scoreless for extended possessions and turned those stops into easy points at the other end.

How the Game Unfolded

Gorzow came out with clear intent, pushing the ball in transition and attacking the rim early. An 18-12 opening period established the tone, with the Polish side's guards repeatedly beating their markers off the dribble and drawing help defence, which in turn opened up kick-out opportunities on the perimeter.

The second quarter was the most competitive of the night, with MBC finding some rhythm from beyond the arc and matching Gorzow almost basket for basket. A 17-15 period kept the German side in touch at the interval, but the warning signs were there: they were being out-rebounded and giving up too many second-chance points.

Whatever was said in the locker room worked. Gorzow's third quarter was their best of the game, a 19-13 burst that pushed the lead out to fourteen and effectively settled the contest. The final period was a formality, with both benches seeing minutes as the Polish side managed the clock professionally.

Key Moments

• Opening five minutes: Gorzow's early 10-3 run forced an early timeout from the MBC bench.
• Late second quarter: MBC's best spell, capped by a three-pointer, brought the deficit back to single digits at the break.
• Third quarter surge: A 12-2 Gorzow run over a four-minute stretch blew the game open.
• Fourth quarter: Gorzow's defensive discipline denied MBC any realistic path back into the match.

Tactical Story

Gorzow's game plan was built on defensive pressure and interior dominance. They pressed intelligently in the backcourt, forcing MBC into rushed decisions and a higher-than-ideal turnover count, then punished those mistakes with quick, decisive attacks before the defence could set.

On the glass, the Polish side held a clear advantage, particularly on the offensive end, where extra possessions proved decisive in a game of relatively modest scoring. MBC's best moments came when they moved the ball quickly and generated open catch-and-shoot looks, but they could not sustain that execution against Gorzow's length and activity.

Standout Players

Gorzow's backcourt controlled the tempo throughout, combining scoring punch with smart distribution, while their forwards did the dirty work on the boards and defended the paint with authority. The bench also contributed meaningfully, maintaining intensity when the starters rested.

For mitteldeutscher bc, the positives came from their perimeter shooting and their willingness to keep competing deep into the fourth quarter. Their guards showed flashes of real quality in the second period, and the experience of facing a physical, well-organised international opponent will serve the squad well as the Club Friendship tournament progresses.
