Illiabum Clube opened their Club Friendship campaign with a convincing 83-73 home win over Beira Mar, controlling the second half to pull clear of a stubborn opponent in a game that was far tighter than the final margin suggests. Played in front of a lively home crowd, the contest showcased two contrasting styles — Illiabum's patient half-court execution against Beira Mar's aggressive transition attack — and it was the hosts' composure in the closing ten minutes that ultimately settled the evening.

Match Overview

From the opening tip, Beira Mar made their intentions clear, pushing the pace and hunting early offense before the Illiabum defense could set. That approach worked well through the first quarter, with the visitors trading baskets and keeping the game level. Illiabum, however, steadily tightened their defensive rotation, closing driving lanes and forcing Beira Mar into contested jumpers as the half wore on.

The hosts took a narrow lead into the break and then extended it in the third quarter with a decisive run built on defensive stops and efficient shooting from the perimeter. By the time the fourth quarter began, Illiabum had established a working cushion that they protected with smart clock management and reliable free-throw shooting.

Key Moments

• Second-quarter surge: Illiabum closed the half on a scoring run that flipped a tight contest into a modest but meaningful lead.
• Third-quarter separation: A burst of transition baskets and back-to-back three-pointers pushed the advantage into double digits.
• Late-game control: Beira Mar cut the deficit to single figures in the fourth, but Illiabum answered each push with disciplined possessions.

Tactical Story

Illiabum's game plan revolved around ball movement and interior patience. Their big men screened aggressively at the top of the key, freeing guards to attack the paint or kick out to shooters. Defensively, they switched effectively on screens, which neutralized much of Beira Mar's pick-and-roll attack.

Beira Mar's best moments came when they forced turnovers and got out in the open court. Their half-court offense, though, struggled against a compact Illiabum zone that clogged the middle and dared them to shoot from distance. That imbalance in efficiency — points in the paint and second-chance buckets for the hosts versus contested perimeter looks for the visitors — proved decisive.

Standout Performers

Illiabum's backcourt dictated the tempo, combining accurate shooting with low turnover numbers, while their frontcourt controlled the glass at both ends. Beira Mar's leading scorers kept them within reach throughout, and their defensive energy in the fourth quarter nearly sparked a late comeback, but they lacked the interior scoring to close the gap fully.

Season Impact

The 83-73 result gives Illiabum Clube an early statement win and valuable momentum in the Club Friendship standings, while Beira Mar leave with a performance that showed real fight but also clear areas to address, particularly half-court execution and rebounding discipline. Both sides will take lessons from a game that was decided by the small margins of execution down the stretch.
