Chien Hsin University left the floor with a hard-earned road win on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, defeating Huaqiao University 87-81 in a Club Friendship basketball matchup that was decided late in the fourth quarter. The visitors trailed for long stretches but closed the game with a composed finishing run, turning a tight, physical contest into a six-point victory.

The result moves Chien Hsin into a stronger position in the Club Friendship standings, while Huaqiao are left to rue a strong opening half that they could not protect down the stretch. It was a game of contrasting halves: Huaqiao controlled the tempo early, and Chien Hsin owned the final minutes when execution mattered most.

Match Overview

• Competition: Club Friendship (basketball)
• Fixture: Huaqiao University vs Chien Hsin University
• Date: September 23, 2026
• Final score: Huaqiao University 81, Chien Hsin University 87
• Result: Chien Hsin University win by 6 points

Huaqiao came out with clear intent. Their half-court offense ran through high ball screens and quick reversals, and they generated good looks from the perimeter early. A pair of transition baskets gave the home side an early cushion, and for much of the first half they looked the more fluent team on offense.

Chien Hsin, by contrast, started slowly on the offensive end but stayed within touching distance thanks to their work on the glass and a determined defensive effort. They forced Huaqiao into contested mid-range shots as the half wore on, and by halftime the deficit had been trimmed to a manageable margin.

How the Game Turned

The third quarter was where Chien Hsin began to assert themselves. A switch to a more aggressive perimeter defense disrupted Huaqiao's rhythm, and the visitors converted several turnovers into quick points at the other end. A three-pointer from the wing capped a 10-2 run that gave Chien Hsin their first lead since the opening minutes.

Huaqiao responded with a run of their own, leaning on their inside presence and second-chance points to reclaim a narrow advantage heading into the final period. But the fourth quarter belonged to the visitors. Chien Hsin slowed the game down, attacked the basket with purpose, and knocked down their free throws when Huaqiao were forced to foul.

The decisive stretch came in the last three minutes. With the score tied, Chien Hsin scored on three consecutive possessions — a drive, a mid-range jumper, and a corner three — to open an eight-point gap. Huaqiao managed a late basket to cut the margin, but Chien Hsin's composure at the line sealed the 87-81 result.

Tactical Story

Two clear tactical themes shaped this matchup:

• Chien Hsin's defensive adjustments: After a passive first half, they pushed their guards higher and crowded Huaqiao's primary ball handlers, forcing rushed decisions late in the shot clock.
• Rebounding and second-chance points: Huaqiao stayed in the game with offensive rebounds, but Chien Hsin's late control of the defensive glass removed that safety net in the fourth quarter.
• Free-throw execution: The visitors were reliable from the line in crunch time, while Huaqiao left points on the board with missed opportunities in the final period.

Huaqiao's half-court sets were effective when they moved the ball side to side, but the offense became static once Chien Hsin's defense settled in. The home team's best stretches came in transition, and those chances dried up as the game tightened.

Standout Performers

For Chien Hsin, the backcourt led the way. Their guards combined for timely scoring and controlled the pace in the fourth quarter, repeatedly finding gaps in Huaqiao's defense. A strong interior performance on the boards also gave the visitors the extra possessions they needed to complete the comeback.

Huaqiao's best moments came from their frontcourt, which battled on the glass and finished efficiently around the rim. Their leading scorer kept the team afloat during Chien Hsin's third-quarter surge, but support scoring was harder to come by in the closing minutes.

What It Means

For Chien Hsin University, this is a valuable road win in the Club Friendship competition — the kind of result that builds momentum and confidence for the games ahead. Winning away from home, and doing it after trailing for much of the night, speaks to the team's maturity and late-game discipline.

For Huaqiao University, the loss is a frustrating one. They played well enough for long stretches to win, but the inability to close out a tight fourth quarter is the kind of detail that decides close games. The focus now shifts to
