Key moments

Gzira’s first-half display was built on ball movement and quick releases from beyond the arc. They hit eight three-pointers before the break, several of them in transition. Hibernians responded with a 13-4 run early in the third quarter to cut the lead to five, but Gzira immediately answered with a 9-0 burst of their own. The closest Hibernians came in the fourth was six points; Gzira then converted eight of their last 10 free throws to close out the game.

Tactical story

The pace of the game suited Gzira Athleta. They pushed the ball after every made basket and finished with 24 fast-break points. Hibernians tried to slow the tempo through their half-court sets and had success attacking the paint, but they could not match Gzira’s efficiency from deep. Gzira finished with 15 three-pointers to Hibernians’ nine, and that differential proved decisive in a game where both teams scored comfortably inside the arc.

Standout players

Gzira’s small forward led all scorers with 30 points, including five three-pointers, and added six rebounds. Their point guard contributed 21 points and 10 assists, while the bench added 28 points in a strong team performance. Hibernians were led by their shooting guard with 25 points and nine assists. The home center recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, but Hibernians could not get enough stops in the fourth quarter.

Season impact

The win gives Gzira Athleta a useful road result and reinforces their scoring depth in the Club Friendship standings. Hibernians showed they can score with anyone but will need to tighten their perimeter defense if they are to turn high-scoring games into wins. With both teams capable of big offensive nights, this head-to-head could become an important tiebreaker later in the season.
