Hapoel Haifa secured an 86-77 victory over Maccabi Kiryat Motzkin in Club Friendship play on Wednesday night, using a strong second-quarter surge and a disciplined fourth-quarter finish to close out a hard-fought contest on home ground.

Match Overview

The game began with both teams feeling each other out, trading baskets in a measured opening period. Kiryat Motzkin were the sharper side early, hitting from mid-range and attacking the offensive glass, but Haifa stayed within touching distance thanks to efficient shooting from the perimeter.

The decisive shift arrived in the second quarter. Haifa rattled off a sustained run, fuelled by defensive stops and quick transition buckets, to take a lead they would never fully surrender. Kiryat Motzkin fought back repeatedly but were always chasing.

Key Moments

• Second quarter: Haifa's defining run, a stretch of roughly five minutes in which they outscored Motzkin heavily and forced several turnovers.
• Third quarter: Motzkin's response, cutting the deficit to five behind improved three-point shooting and better ball movement.
• Fourth quarter: Haifa's composure at the free-throw line, converting consistently to keep the lead at a comfortable distance.
• Final two minutes: A crucial defensive rebound and a fast-break finish that ended any realistic hope of a Motzkin comeback.

Tactical Story

Haifa's win was built on defence turning into offence. Their guards pressured the ball aggressively, and their wings filled the lanes well in transition, converting steals and long rebounds into points before Motzkin could organise.

In the half court, Haifa's spacing was excellent. They moved the ball side to side, forced rotations, and attacked closeouts rather than settling for early shots. That discipline produced a high percentage of open looks and kept Motzkin's defence on the back foot.

Kiryat Motzkin's best spells came when they slowed the game down and played through their interior players, drawing fouls and generating second-chance points. The problem was consistency; whenever they built momentum, a turnover or a contested miss handed it straight back.

Standout Performers

Haifa's leading scorers were effective inside and out, and their bench contributed meaningful minutes, particularly during the second-quarter run. The team's rebounding effort after halftime was a major factor in protecting the lead.

For Maccabi Kiryat Motzkin, the guards battled throughout and kept the offence functioning, while their big men worked hard on the glass. The difference was on the defensive end, where Motzkin struggled to contain dribble penetration for extended stretches.

What It Means

It is a confidence-building result for Hapoel Haifa, who showed they can control a game defensively and close it out calmly. Maccabi Kiryat Motzkin leave with a nine-point defeat that was closer than the final score suggests, and with clear areas to address before their next fixture.

Next Up

Haifa will aim to replicate this level of defensive pressure in their next Club Friendship outing, while Motzkin will look to tighten their transition defence and reduce the turnovers that repeatedly undermined their momentum.
