Morphou led 21-18 after the first quarter and stretched the advantage to 43-32 by halftime. Etha Encomi responded with a strong third period to trim the gap to 59-52, but Morphou steadied themselves in the final ten minutes and protected the lead at the free-throw line. The quarter-by-quarter scoring tells the story of a game that was never completely out of reach for the home side, yet always under Morphou’s control when it mattered most.

How Morphou Built the Win

Morphou set the tone with disciplined half-court offense and active hands on defense. After a tight opening exchange, they closed the first quarter with a small burst to take a three-point lead. The second quarter was where the game tilted decisively: Morphou outscored Etha Encomi 22-14, using a 12-2 run midway through the period to turn a narrow advantage into a double-digit cushion. By the time the halftime buzzer sounded, Morphou led 43-32 and had forced Etha Encomi into hurried possessions and contested jump shots.

The visitors’ balance was evident throughout the first half. They moved the ball from side to side, attacked the paint when the perimeter was closed off, and knocked down enough outside shots to keep Etha Encomi’s defense honest. Morphou’s guards controlled the tempo, while their frontcourt battled on the boards to limit second-chance opportunities. It was a textbook road performance for long stretches, built on poise rather than panic.

Etha Encomi’s Third-Quarter Response

Etha Encomi came out of the locker room with renewed energy. A 10-2 run to open the third quarter cut the deficit from 43-32 to 45-42 and brought the home crowd fully into the game. Center Lukas Andreou became a focal point inside, scoring through contact and drawing extra attention, while guard Nikos Christou knocked down timely shots from the perimeter. For a moment, it looked as though Etha Encomi might complete the comeback before the final period.

Morphou, however, weathered the storm. They slowed the pace, tightened their transition defense, and answered nearly every Etha Encomi basket with one of their own. A late third-quarter push restored a 59-52 lead heading into the fourth, giving Morphou just enough breathing room to withstand another inevitable run.

Fourth Quarter and Key Moments

Etha Encomi refused to fade. Early in the fourth, they trimmed the margin to 61-58, and the home bench rose in anticipation of a complete turnaround. That was as close as they would get. Morphou responded with a decisive 9-0 run over the next three minutes, a sequence that effectively decided the game. Andreas Petrou hit a three-pointer from the wing, followed by a steal-and-layup that silenced the crowd. Marios Georgiou then completed a three-point play inside, pushing the lead to 70-58 and forcing Etha Encomi to chase the game once again.

From there, Morphou managed the clock and converted enough free throws to keep the margin comfortable. Etha Encomi continued to compete, scoring late through Andreou and Christou, but the defensive stops they needed never arrived. Morphou’s largest lead of the night was 12 points, and while the final margin was nine, the control they exerted in the closing minutes was more convincing than the scoreline alone suggests.
