Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

The opening period set the tone for a tight, physical contest, with CAIXA Brasília Basquete edging ahead 22-18 behind accurate perimeter shooting and a handful of transition baskets. Cruzeiro responded in the second quarter but could not close the gap, as the visitors matched them nearly basket for basket to take a 42-35 lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter belonged to Cruzeiro. A 19-16 period — their strongest stretch of the game — cut into the deficit and brought the home crowd to life, setting up a tense final ten minutes. But CAIXA Brasília Basquete answered when it mattered most, controlling the fourth quarter 20-17 and keeping Cruzeiro at arm's length until the closing buzzer.

Key Moments

Cruzeiro's third-quarter surge was the game's most dramatic passage. Trailing by double digits at one stage, they tightened their defense, forced turnovers and converted them into quick points to pull within a single possession. The momentum appeared to be shifting.

The decisive response arrived early in the fourth quarter. CAIXA Brasília Basquete steadied the game with a controlled offensive set, drew fouls to slow the tempo, and knocked down the shots that had eluded them in the third. A short scoring run restored a two-possession cushion, and from there the visitors managed the clock intelligently, denying Cruzeiro the clean looks they needed to complete the comeback.

Tactical Story

CAIXA Brasília Basquete's success was built on defensive discipline. They contested jump shots consistently, rotated well to close out on shooters and forced Cruzeiro into difficult late-clock attempts. On offense, they spread the floor effectively, using ball screens to create mismatches and attacking the paint when the perimeter was taken away.

Cruzeiro's best basketball came when they pushed the pace. Their third-quarter run was driven by aggressive defense and quick decisions in transition, catching the visitors before their half-court defense could set. The problem was sustaining it — when the game slowed in the fourth quarter, Brasília's structured execution proved more reliable than Cruzeiro's improvisation.

Standout Performances

• CAIXA Brasília Basquete backcourt: Controlled tempo, hit timely shots and handled pressure well in the closing minutes.
• CAIXA Brasília Basquete defense: Delivered the decisive stops during Cruzeiro's third-quarter push and protected the lead in the fourth.
• Cruzeiro: Showed real character to fight back into the contest, with their transition game and defensive intensity at their best in the third period.

Impact and Takeaways

For CAIXA Brasília Basquete, this is a valuable away victory — the kind of win that builds belief and demonstrates the ability to close out tight games on the road. Winning by seven in a hostile environment, after surrendering momentum in the third quarter, speaks to the team's composure and maturity.

Cruzeiro leave with a frustrating but instructive result. Their third-quarter display showed they can compete with quality opposition when they defend with intensity and attack in transition. Turning that 10-minute stretch into a full 40-minute performance is the challenge ahead, and reducing turnovers in late-game situations will be central to converting close losses into wins.

What's Next

CAIXA Brasília Basquete will look to build on this road win as they continue their Club Friendship schedule, aiming to maintain the defensive standard that carried them through the fourth quarter. Cruzeiro will return to work focused on late-game execution and consistency, knowing that the margins in this competition are slim enough that one strong quarter is rarely enough.
